1992 aftermarket stereo loses power?

Since you aren't losing power, my guess would be that whatever anti-shock technology is used in the head unit has failed.
The easiest way to deal with that is to go solid state... I bought a head unit that will accept an SD car behind the faceplate, and I digitized my CD collection.

The car is a convertible, so I really don't want to go too expensive - considering how easy it is to get into a convertible.

The car came to us with a single sized CD player and we have gotten used to he extra space under it. This is my son's first car and he feels the adapter doesn't look that bad.
