About a manual trans swap
So now that I bought an automatic 1996 lt1, and after reading about the horror stories about LS swapping this generation of corvette because of cpu malfunctions and whatnot. I figure just lt4 swapping from maybe a wrecked 1996 donor car or a crate motor would work better. Has anybody taken on this kind of job? Does it work out smoothly?

Buying a "light hit" '96 LT4/M6 might be a thought but not the A4/M6 conversion. An M6 that was a "light hit" and just required mostly bolt-on panels/components that you could salvage from your current car and then parted out is maybe a thought. I'd try to avoid anything with a "SALVAGE" title BUT if it's for yourself and a "KEEPER" then even that isn't an issue.

You'd be far ahead to just sell your car and buy what you want. Having said that, if you do go ahead, a complete car that you can verify the mechanical condition is the only way to go. Now if its just an engine swap, that's not near the problem or expense of changing the ENTIRE drive line of a trans swap.

if you want a 6 speed sell yours and buy one. you will be way ahead of the game. and if you want a LS vette again sell yours and by a C5.

I had selling as my last option but seeing as that's the least nightmarish way might as well just do that. Thanks guys, I like this forum of gear heads

You can post up in the C4 For Sale section here and see if someone might want to do a swap. I no longer drive stick shift cars due to a bad left knee.

It seems conversions of any sort are strictly for those who are demons for punishment. Swapping out engines, transmissions and other major components seems to be very involved, not for the faint of heart.
