I'm back! need advice on next c4
Hello C4 forum!
I had a black '89 C4 from 2006 to 2009. I regret getting rid of it. I have been driving a 4x4 Powerstroke since then but I don't need it anymore and I'm itching to get another C4.
My truck is all but sold and I have my eye on a beautiful C4 with low mileage (~60k). My concern is that is has been sitting a while. Do rubber and gaskets get brittle? What about the 700r4 internals? Am I setting myself up for headaches?
My main question is, what are the pros can cons of an old car with low miles that has sat a while, versus a similar car with higher miles that has been driven every day?
Thoughts? Thanks!!

The car I bought sat for pretty much 2 years with the previous owner, not sure how long before that, it's a high mileage car but has no mechanical problems or leaks, pretty much the only thing the car has going for it!

Drifting
My 95 had 18k on it when I bought it a year ago. It has a little oil leak from the back of the intake manifold which is pretty normal for an LT1 and I had to replace the water pump. The engine runs great and the trans shifts just like a new one. Nothing else has leaked or broken since. That car sat around for years before I bought it. I have put 4k on since. I don't think 60k is that low it was probably driven enough so I wouldn't worry.

When you says it has been sitting for a while, how long do you mean? (a few months, a year, a decade?)

I've seen both sides, 50/50 chance. Best judgement will be to see it in person, give it a good drive and inspect vehicle for leaks/odors/noise/etc.

Burning Brakes
Yes rubber gaskets can deteriorate & dry rot. I looked at a so called pristine 1991 ZR1 yesterday with low miles. The car was kept under an outside cover for years and never moved. It must have been in the sun as if baking in an oven. The owner thought it was worth a million dollars. I wouldn't have paid $5k for it. A shame some one ruined a great vehicle because they didn't know any better how to store it. Soooooooo look the car over before buying. Some times it's not worth buying and spending a lot of money and time on a fix up car. Look for a car that was taken care of. It will probably cost you the same in the long run.

When you get a chance I'd change all the fluids including brake fluid, just to prevent any future problems.
All the best with the Corvette and see you around the forum.

Great advice on the brake fluid a few posts back. When I picked up my 29k miles car last month the brake fluid was just brutal from sitting. Dark colored and disgusting. I had the entire system flushed.

I never thought about Craigslist. I have been scouring Cars.com, autotrader and a few others for a while now. The Craigslist idea opened up a whole new stream of possibilities. Thanks guys.
