I would say someone put the newer style front and rear bumpers on an 88' Corvette. Lots of aftermarket places sell them.

The interesting thing is he says it has an LT1 in it. Not a common swap but it is common for non Vette people to call an L98 an LT1

I see a lot of cars being listed as different years, but that is a pre 89 car because of the interior, I also see some cars listed as 90+ with the 89 and before interior so...

The confusion comes with Chevy Reusing the same engine designation. There is a 70-72 LT-1 at 370 HP. They reused the LS series as well that were all big blocks originally.

I wouldn't say it's that odd, but here is an odd one; I'm truck shopping right now. I'm looking at '06, early '07 Chev/GMC 2500 Duramax. Found one posted for sale about an hour away, "BLACK, 07 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Duramax/Allison". I call, guy tells me it's "Super clean....one of the cleanest you'll find, of these trucks!" Sweet, that is what I want. I drive up there start looking at it and something doesn't seem quite right. Hmmm...what is it? Then BOOM...it hits me; it's got a '00-'02 front end on it!

It SHOULD have this front end:

I ask the seller if he's SURE it's an '07, b/c it has on early front. "Oh yeah, I'm sure", he says. I open the drivers door and look at the build sticker; it has black overspray on it (repainted door) and it says '06. I check the VIN and the door is original. Check the emissions sticker, and it too, says '06, so the truck is an '06 that someone has stuck and 00-02 front on. It's been wrecked.

Then I start to find the 'little gems';
Bumper mounts literally booger-welded to frame,
Red paint showing in rear door jam (cab's been replaced/painted)
Red paint in gas fill pocket (bed's been replaced/repainted)
Rattle can black paint all over suspension, frame rails
Etc.

When ever I see a vehicle with this type of "pot-luck parts"...I leave it for someone else to own.

Yes, unfortunately the used car market is a smorgasbord of lies and deceit. Curbstoner are the worst. Flipping cars without a license and usually NO history on the car.

Considering the alternative, buying new, you have the risk of getting bent over on the deal and massive depreciation within a year.

Sigh

You hit the nail on the head big time...on all of that^! New? $60k for a 1/2 ton truck. F that. Used....you don't know what you're getting, can't trust anyone...definitely buyer beware.

In '02, I bought the truck I have now, used, with 80k miles, for $10k. It pulls my boat like a *****, gets over 20 mpg hwy and I've put another 210,000 miles on it with next to nothing in repairs. Do you think I can reproduce that value with my next truck's purchase? I don't think it's possible. I'm looking at spending 3x what I spent before, to get an older truck with more miles already on it...just to get the same performance. And it may work out, IF I manage to dodge the spit 'n shined roaches. "Yeah, this truck was babied! Never towed anything w/it!" And there's a 5th wheel in the bed.

.

With GM and their full size trucks it seems they like "classic" in 88 there were 2 square old truck and round new truck. Square truck 3500 lasted until 91. 2000 truck came out in early 1999 so there was new and one. 07 again new and classic. It can play hell on body shops and parts depts getting parts without VIN.

If it is ******** Joe and his cousin Billy Bob, I'd pass. Who knows what else you have screwed with? OTOH, if it is a reputable person that has done proper work in the past instead of just shoe horning whatever he can, I'm in. So a good shop with good national credentials is fine.
