Default Would you?

Now I saw this car for sale before I purchased mine, it's now listed at 5,500 but the pictures show on the windshield 4,500. Now if the car could be purchased for 4,000 would you guys buy it? I LOVE the paint color, car looks like it'd clean up well, now coming from working on a car that had a TON of electrical issues, the engine bay is the only thing that turns me away from the car, It's an absolute mess, you think they'd clean it up for pictures, aswell as the interior, there's wires there that I see that don't make any sense, around the battery and alternator (Possibly car had a sub or something wired up?) just wondering what your guys thoughts on the car is, don't sugar coat it !
http://newhaven.craigslist.org/ctd/5719624832.html

Edit: Also noticed the roll of electrical tape in the center console.
Edit: Corvette logo on the back painted? Don't think this car was a repaint considering the door jams, but who knows, slight paint flaws in front bumper.
Edit: Also noticed (Kind of hard to tell) in the last two pictures, the headlight cover is painted black right? Could be blue, to hard for me to tell. This car has had to be repainted, trim is painted aswell. Thinking it's probably a black car.

If you want a '89 6 spd. I would hold out and get what you really want. Looks to me you would be just getting another project with the one you are asking about.

Bottom line do not be swayed by asking price. Wait and get what you want or you will be back in the same situation you were in with your first C4. Does not make sense with a car like the C4 to buy cheap and have nothing but problems-The cars value and abundant supply does not dictate making compromises.

Yep, the more I look at that car the more problems I see. Just curious to see what you guys were thinking. This is the car I'd like, been for sale for a while also dropped 500 dollars yesterday. I actually really like the way the mud flaps look on the car, aswell as the cloth seats over leather.

I see lots of things that have been changed... other than a repaint looks rode hard, with lots of projects needing finished. maybe a $3k car.

The 89 does not look bad.

The ad says 5-speed, however based on the picture of the interior I am almost certain it is a 4+3 Trans, nothing wrong with the 4+3 (I have one), but you had said you wanted a 6-speed. The engine bay looks pretty dirty and I can tell from the picture the brake fluid is very old. Also the valve covers are not stock just so you know. Seats are swapped from a later C4.

To me it looks like a project car, for 3K it might be worth it, but considering you decided not to proceed with the 84' because of all the work it needs I don't think this is what you want...

Having said that it won't hurt anything to check it out and see what it looks like in person.

Best of luck on your search...

I think you might be better holding off and finding exactly what you want.

What do you guys think of the 89 I linked? Really like this car, the mudflaps and cloth seats are great in my opinion. Sometimes it's hard being 18 and wanting things, going to listen to you guys this time and save for a decent car since i've learned my lesson the hard way.

Run from '85. More of the same of what you are trying to sell.

The '89 however doesn't look bad. Probably worth a visit and a test drive. The asking price isn't bad but can probably be had for less.

The 89 looks pretty nice. I agree about the cloth seats. This looks a lot like a car that got away from me when I was on my search, same mileage and options - I think the one I was looking at sold for about $5500.

Here's the thing...wait until winter. A lot of really great cars can be bought for much less in December-Feb when people are desperate to get rid of them for one reason or another. Buying in warm months guarantees paying a sports car/open top premium.

The 89' looks a fair bit better than the 85'. Mud flaps can be removed easily, the seats are pretty rough but you could probably find a better used set an swap them in. The engine certainly looks a lot cleaner.

I don't have any first hand knowledge of the ZF6 but from what I hear repairs can be expensive and in particular good dual mass flywheels are hard to come by. So if you look at it be sure to pay real close attention to the transmission to be sure its working well.

Best of luck.

I'd steer clear of the 85, its a mess. I don't think that blue was offered in that year, so I believe its a repaint. Corvette Center in Newington just sold a 85 that looked very clean, the price was up there at 8500. Take a look at it on their website. That blue 85 would have you there before you knew it and still wouldn't be as nice.

The '89 definitely looks to be in better shape but I would pass on both to find a better car.
