Corvette for first car thoughts?

My first car was a 5.7l Camaro z28 @ 15 years of age. I worked the entire summer to pay for the blown rear and transmission (thats how i bought it) but once it was running it was a beast for it's time. I never got caught up in tickets or anything like that because i knew i would loose the car. Of course i may have ran a car here or there but i got conferrable with the car and it's power. I don't see any issues with your son driving it at all

I got him a scanner when I bought the shop manual - If I remember right you gave me the link for it. We now have four cars and a truck in the family and it's a five minute walk to school for him - if the car has trouble he will still drive one of our other cars, but that's a year away.

Don't deprive him as he already knows it is for him .Your friend that gave it for him must have thougt about it first.Give the kid a chance to prove himself.Everyone has to learn respect for what they have.

My friend ran it by me first, and then I ran it by my wife. We're good with it as he really is a great kid - I got lucky with him, as I was a handful at his age. He loves the car and I have already let him drive it a few times on my secrete private parking lot. I was just hoping to read some other member's stories to tell my mother-in-law.

True. Besides, I'm not sure there is much to prove since he is going to be 18 and is legally able to make decisions. We are not rednecks where "Old enough to bleed, old enough to breed" is the mantra. As they say, your right to swing your fist end where my nose begins. So if you cause my rates to go up, you are going to pay for it. Beyond that, I will help you out where I can.

Dad, you sound like you raised a good kid and your judgment is sound. Go with your instincts.

Exactly.
He sounds like a good kid, but he is still just a kid. My concerns would be more about reliability and safety features on a 25-year-old car. You don't want your kid stranded. Or injured.
I recall reading somewhere that the most reckless/dangerous drivers are young men in pickup trucks, so I don't think the C4 is the issue.
It's a beautiful car -- I'm envious!

I have AAA road service that covers all my vehicles for up to a 200 mile tow. The car runs good and he would not be going out of the county in it for some time. I'll help him keep it running any way I can - and if it doesn't work out he can sell it and buy something else.

It would probably be a good panty dropper. Don't forget to put a box of Trojans in the glove.
