Ahh! Now that both of your cars are pretty much worthless to you as they are not matching, I offer to buy them both for say..... $15,000. What do you say?

IMO Mecum and ebay are good indicators for the MARKET price, not wholesale. Though honestly, I'd damn near throw out all those Mecum and Barrett Jackson results as just hype. They have a whole crowd convinced that every car sold should set the record price, and that the max prices are indicators, not outliers.

I agree. I watch their auctions every weekend and they are the outlier, for sure.

Im not sure i agree with that... i have no inside knowledge as to what extent but i do know that a many of the cars bought at those auctions are bought by dealers who are bidding at an amount that they know will turn a profit for their business thus my reasoning for my wholesale opinion.

I'd tend to think Mecum and Barrett Jackson are the opposite - they're mostly consumers buying stuff on the high side because they just want it. Why would a dealer go to an auction like that as opposed to a private dealer auction where they will pay FAR less due to (effectively) no consumers being there? Most of these high profile auctions are people looking for specific cars, for themselves.

There may be some dealers, sure. But most of the guys buying the pricey stuff there are buying it for themselves, most of the cars that they sell are at the top of the market when the commission is factored in.

I also don't understand who thinks SELLING there is a good idea. They know that buyers are going to have to pay a 10% fee, and will bid 10% less as a result. I figure it's guys who want to be part of the spectacle.

So after awhile I get tired of the BS. Those links above are some of the ones I found in a very quick search. As everyone can see, prices vary from high 20's to low 60's. Keep in mind that these are asking prices and not sell (sold) prices.

However, also remember that this particular car is usually a sellers market car as there is a limited production run and each is uniquely serialized separately from the main stream 1996 production run.

IMHO.
Would I like to have a GS roadster in my garage? YES!
Would I pay $30K to $60K to have that privilege? NO!

A couple of the links you posted were coupes and I think the OP was specifically looking for convertibles. Coupes can easily be found in the $20-30,000 range.

Brandt,

I have been following these closely for the last little while and this is what I have to share. This list is by no means totally exhaustive as I sure I missed a few. This is from 2016 and Verts only...

#117 Black Interior 19,264mi Located in PA, asking price $43,995
#178 Red Interior 6,648mi Located in FL, asking price $64,900
#232 Black Interior 5,800mi Located in TX, SOLD $52,500
#379 Black Interior 1,270mi Located in CO, asking price $62,500
#395 Black Interior 26,050mi Located in PA, SOLD $25,000
#439 Red Interior 4,102mi Located in FL, asking price $69,995
#673 Black Interior (Red conversion) 52,155mi Located in TX, SOLD $25,000
#678 Black Interior 18,015mi Located in CA, asking price $42,500
#751 Black Interior 4,317mi Located in TX, asking price $51,995
#909 Black Interior 32,000mi Located in VA, asking price $36,000

Hope that helps put things into perspective. Still have a little saving up to do but I will have mine when the time is right.

I owned GS #429. It had 15K miles on it and was absolutely pristine. It was a coupe, black interior, base suspension. I sold it to Rogers Corvette Center about 2 years ago for $26,000, and it was an Ebay auction.

Big difference between 30 and 70k!
The new GS wont change the C4 prices one bit, just like the new ZR1 hasnt affected the old ones. Just speculation.

they may have their own vin and stripes but overpriced imo oh yeah.

I know the market well on these cars. i know that i was recently offered north of 30K for my 22000 mile red gut coupe and i suspect that a convertible with the same miles and condition would fetch north of 40K.

Just trying to answer the question posted by the OP.
40k From a fool or a collector in Sweden. That is a fact not being a dick.

A base c4 might have been sold for a ton at one time, but it's not the norm.
5 years ago here 16k was way high. 20k might be realistic now.
