What are the 96 Grand Sports worth these days?
What are the Grand Sport convertibles bringing these days? Couple of them for sale ranging from $35k all the way up to $70K. But, what are they selling for?
Anybody have a pulse on the market?

According to Hagerty's:
But I would take that with a grain of salt. Price also varies slightly on location. However, hard to say how much it is worth without knowing the condition and method you want to sell or buy it.

I don't we anything in this price guide that states the value of a GS.

Reason I was asking...thinking of selling my GS ragtop. Haven't had it long, and I haven't driven it. Put "new" OEM tires on the front and fixed a couple of things that was wrong with it. I'm thinking of selling off all the toys but one to pay down the mortgage and try to get debt free in the next couple of years.

Check the sold section of eBay. A low mileage GS vert in PA sold in the mid 20s recently.

Having been in the market for the past 2 years I seriously doubt anyone can buy an excellent condition one or two owner Grand Sport for 'cheap' unless the miles are quite high. With you being a seller, look at Autotrader, Cars.com, Hemmings for asking prices and see where your car (condition, miles, etc...) fits in. I can't guesstimate for you without all the details, from mileage to condition to storage location and number of owners. Trust me, I'd pay more for a one or two owner garage kept with a solid service history compared to a 5 owner with no records and perhaps left outside in the elements. Being on the lower side of what you see on-line will get your car sold. Realize that the holiday season is now approaching which means a slower season for car sales. You will have to be priced right. Just saying $10k, $15k, $20k, without any details is not helping you in any fashion. It's all in the details. It's true for any car. Been in the hobby for decades now and while new to the Corvette world, the same rules are in place.
Good luck!

Folks with no knowledge of the GS market are chiming in on this topic. Of course mileage and condition are the biggest determining factor when it comes to price. I watched a clean 21000 mile black interior coupe sell at mecum indy 2 weeks ago for $22000 + 10% buyers fee. My guess is the same car in a vert would have sold for around 10 grand more. I see most mecum sales just like ebay... an indicator of the wholesale market price.
My suggestion is to look at mecum infonet to easily search past auction results to view actual GS sales
And to the $15000 guy... recently a low mile red gut coupe sold for 70 grand...
Now let the "its just a stripe, some black wheels and stupid wheel flares" crowd chime in on how overpriced the GS is.

Gran Sports have always been a nitchey car, and they kind of peaked when the C6 Gran Sports came out. A rabid ownership base kept the values up, but the C6 Gran Sports diluted the name recognition (similar to what the C6 ZR1s have done to the C4 ZR-1s). An aging base of amateur collector/speculators is also leaving the market. A museum quality documented car will still fetch a premium, but baring outside forces I would say $30s for an exceptional car would probably be the max, and a tough sale.

Im not being defensive at all... just addressing the statements that are being made in this thread by people with no clue concerning the GS market.
I know the market well on these cars. i know that i was recently offered north of 30K for my 22000 mile red gut coupe and i suspect that a convertible with the same miles and condition would fetch north of 40K.
Just trying to answer the question posted by the OP.

I agree the 96 GS is special in of itself, more so with the roadster. As I posted earlier, price depends on many factors and another one of those factors is market. It is only worth what someone is willing to pay.
You also have to remember that when someone asks for opinions from a diverse crowd then one must be prepared for the inevitable unwanted/undesired response. It is just going to happen. It's like death and taxes.

One more quick note.
I predict (uneducated guess) that some 96 GS cars will go up in value due to the 2017 GS model. Mostly due to the Blue with White strip paint option and available red seats.
I am sure there will be some collector out there that will want/need a matching pair 21 years apart. Too bad you can't have the 2017 GS with the LT4. That would be icing on the cake.

The new blue white grand sports look killer.... but i am confused why admiral blue isnt admiral blue... i cant imagine that GM has ever reused a specificly named color and it not be the same as the original.... oh well... too 90's i guess
I vet the matching pair craziness as i fell into the same nonsense with my '15 Z... My GS is 855 and my Z was an early enough build that i was hoping for the same vin to have matching LT4's. Ended up being 680 and my dreams were crushed
