Venting about Corvette snobs!

Don't let people bother you. Ignore them.
You know what's fun. I belong to a Corvette Club where C7's rule & everyone else is just there. A few weeks ago we were at a show and I took Best of Show in my class with my C4. Only one C7 won a trophy in it's class only because it was new and had 17 miles on it.
IMO showing a leased C7 doesn't have the same feeling. You agree?
Ignore them all and don't drive to impress, drive to enjoy.

My Mustang friends really like my C4 but I also own a Mustang.
Next time I go to a Mustang event I'll see what kind of vibe I hear when I mention my C4.

Are you serious, someone was showing a leased C7?

I've seen that plenty of times - leased Camaros, Shelbys, Mustang GT, Hell Cats - hell as expensive as they all are its no wonder. But as long as the shows accept the newer cars you can't fault the car owners for showing up.

Its funny that you would bring in Mustang guy into this, one of them is a mustang guy. lol..
I had my 86 sitting next to my 73 in the shop. My daughter (She was 12) was having a birthday party with about a dozen of her class mates over. When I opened the shop door, I expected them all to head over to my 73 race car.
But the entire group went over and started checking out my 86. Remember, these kids don't know anything but what they like. It was interesting to watch.
I think you assessment of the "snobs" was spot on. Great analysis imo. Its also interesting about the average buyer of the C5. My 71 year old father has one lol.

ive had a hard time explaining to my mustang friends that a dude with a c4, in 2016, is not a corvette snob.
they remember the early 90s where guys with stock c4vettes thought they were the fastest thing out there (bc they were) and had an ego.
those times are long gone. everything is fast now.
the corvette snobs who had stock c4s in the 90s arent smart enough to soup it up or fix all the c4 gremlins, so they have traded it on for newer models with warranties.
but some of the mustang guys still hate all corvettes (usually starting with c4+)

I think it more or less has to do with the styling of the C4. Most people just seem to like the C5+ over the C4. Even though the C5 has quite a few styling ques taken from the C4. I think it also has to do with a LS engine over a LT1. There is a bigger aftermaket available for the LS engines. Don't feel bad though it seems that the amount of C5's showing up at car shows around me has dropped dramatically. With the C7 out and the C8 around the corner the C5 will become the "new" C4 of the Corvette World.
I went from a C4 to a C5Z and honestly it worlds better in every category, but to each their own. I still have soft spot for C4's and get giddy when I see them on the road or at shows.

I love C4s. I bought a new 1984 in early 84. I drove the car for 2 years and loved it. I traded the 84 for a 1986. There was a big difference between the two cars. The 86 engine was much more responsive as it should have been.
The Crossfire has always held a spot in my mind, so much that i purchased another 84 in 2011 and rebuilt and repainted the car.
I love to drive the 84 just as much as my C5. I think all Corvettes are great and will never run any other owners machine down.
Save the wave!

I like all the Corvettes and still have a C5, but I like the C4's. For me it is the best bang for the buck car that I really enjoy driving and working on.
I guess I might be crazy too since I have had 7 of them pictured below in model year order ('96.'95,'94,'94,'88,'87,'85). Still have the top two.

They've probably just never seen anyone who raced a Corvette. Most Corvettes never break the speed limit.

so many people think the reason that c4's prices are low is because of how many were made. i live in a small canadian city of about 1.3 million and i can drive 6 months and never see a c4. no exageration! but, i will see 4 or 5 c7's in one day, equal amount of c6's, and about 2-3 c5's and c3's a week. not one c4 in 6 months.
and I'm not missing them because im always scanning traffic!
i have a feeling most c4's are sitting derelect and un-used. Its just where they are on the depreciation cycle. at the bottom of the inflection curve. appearing like they are not going down but not up either. considered worthless by some and therefore sit in a thick layer of dust like an unwanted toy. C3's were here in the early 2000's and have now rocketed up so one that has been "daily driver" status repaired is going for 15-20k. These could have been bought for 2k in the year 2000 up here.
So if you want a Corvette that is the most unique corvette on the road today, no doubt, its either a c1, c2, or c4.
And we know what the price differential is on those 3!
85 has been fully restored other than we chose to repair the roof crack rather than spend the 1500$ canadian up here to replace it. the repair is working great.

I think the auto sucked the power out of the GT though, never did get a 0-60 time using the built in timer over 5.0 seconds and the car is rated at 4.5. I have never liked Fords and thus the Mustang is gone and I now have a C5Z, but thought you folks might appreciate that story. Somewhere out there, some guy was probably bragging about giving a 5.0 Mustang a run for its money with his old Vette much to the dismissal by his friends and I'm here to confirm that it was in fact the truth

C5s when Corvettes starting getting good.

There's a bunch of threads with similar subjects. By what I've read, the consensus is that the C4 is neither old-school muscle (C1-C3) nor modern performance (C5-C7). So the C4 falls into a netherworld between the two styles of Corvette.
But the C4 was one of the most significant new Corvettes ever. The C4 was a *huge* leap forward in technology and performance, which is awesome, but it also has the most understated body styling of any Corvette, which is likely the main reason why it gets poo-poo'ed so much. The body doesn't have big fender bulges or sharp angles, or even much attitude for a Corvette, yet it still looks very badass. Personally I love the C4 styling, my favorite by far.
