I clay bar in the spring and machine buff as does "tmirisola".
Except the buff is all that's required to keep the finish looking excellent.
An occasional dry wash and finish with Adams or Mothers detailer and shes good for the summer.

Im currently cutting and buffing. DA with interface pad and 1500 grit followed by Trizact 3000 grit. Then meguiars M105 with microfiber cutting pad on a 6" random orbital followed by meguiars m205 on a light cutting pad. Im pretty pleased with these products.

How often do people clay bar their car to shock you?

Its a process(claying) I do when I buy a car (new or used) and add layers of polish on top of. As long as the paint feels smooth (cellophane between my finger and the surface), I feel there is no need to do it too often, as the main culprit is rail dust that gets embedded when our vehicles are transported.
As for adding layers goes, I'm not a fan. Instead choose to clean and polish the clear coat. A coat of wax and a final buff for a finish. Once a year. Or less if the micro scratches are not obvious..... my 0.02
YMMV

I have started using Glare polishes and sealants this summer and have been very pleased with the results! I find that carnauba waxes do not hold up very long before having to reapply. Been very happy with how well the glare polish is holding up! I also use glare's waterless wash and it compliments the polish well. Not the cheapest product by a long shot but judging by the compliments I receive about how clean the car looks, it's worth it! I apologize this is not the best picture to show the shine. I definitely feel polishes hold up better than waxes!
