Default 1990 transmission slipping plz help!

Im new to the corvette world and ALWAYS wanted one. I went and test drove 1990 with 6sp. Went real easy on it at first got up to about 40 and then buried my foot in her. It slipped, so i got out of it and back into it again and it did better. Took it back to the guy and he took me for a ride. It slipped with him as well. This is my question... he said the slave cylinder mustve leaked onto clutch. Is there any truth in this. After making it slip a few times it starting biting hard and running great.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It probably just needs a clutch and maybe a slave cylinder.

If it slipped regularly, just count on it.

But it's not the end of the world.

Just factor that into your price negotiations.

How much do you rekon a new clutch would cost. Ive got him talked down to 5 grand. The overall cobdition is 6 out of 10 imo

I'm at home. I don't have a parts book in front of me, but it doesn't matter because this varies WIDELY with where you are located.

Tomorrow, call a couple of reputable shops in your area (preferably transmission shops) and ask about a clutch replacement. A quality clutch like, Luk, Sachs, etc. No Autozone junk, because they're just problems. Mention it might need a slave cylinder also.

Also, it bothers me that you can get it hot and make it grab. You may want to look for oil in the bell housing area. If you see that, you'll need a rear seal also. But it's not terribly expensive to do when the trans is out. Not a deal breaker by any means.

Best of luck to you.

PS: I may have misspoke. Because, again, this varies widely with your location.

Might not hurt to ask the trans shop about that too?

It's not a big deal here, but..
