93 C4 parking brake won't disengage
I just picked up A 93 6 Speed and the parking brake handle moves up and down with NO resistance. There is no clicking sound when I pull it up and it goes right back down.Yes I tried pulling it all the way back with the button pushed.

They don't click. Pull it ALL the way up and press the button. It should work.
It moving up and down with no resistance is normal. Imagine trying to get out of the car with e brake all the way up.

Sounds like it has not been used for awhile and the cables needs some lube.

You ever lubed cables successfully? I haven't been able to do that for the last few cars yet. My personal experience is that once they seize, just cut them off and replace them. I have tried spraying WD-40 and hoping it wicks but that hasn't worked yet. YMMV

I had some old ones I soaked in a bucket.

It worked? I just soak them with PB Blaster or WD-40 every day for a week and if it didn't work, I just get new ones and not screw with taking it out and putting it back in. Just for giggles, we put one to a vise and pulled the cable with a rachet and finally it moved but it was so rough, we didn't want to chance it.

I never use my parking brake but don't you have to press on the brake pedal when trying to engage and disengage? Might want to check the owners manual.

Once it is up, it will fall back to the floor. To disengage you have to pick it back up until it stops and then push the button and then it will retention the handle and pull itself to the floor.

Nope. You have to have the key in the ignition and depress the brake to disengage the gear but not the brake in this car

Exactly. If he has already pulled up, either the pads are all gone and the mechanism isn't engaging or something is up. If there is no tension, it should be fully engaged which he should notice. In which case he should be able to pull it up like you said and disengage but there should be tension.

If the OP is pressing the button and then raising the handle I do not believe it will release the brake.
I don't have my car here to test that but I am sure someone could test that quickly enough.

To set the parking brake:
Hold the brake pedal
down. Pull the parking brake lever
up, then move it back down. This sets
your parking brake, even though the lever is
down. If the ignition is on, the parking
brake indicator light will come on.
To release the parking brake:
Hold the brake pedal down. Pull the parking brake
lever up until you can push in the release
button. Hold the release button in as
you move the lever all the way down.

The OP may not be pulling the handle all the way to the top before pushing the button. I believe the brake will not disengage if the handle is not all the way to the top and THEN pressing the button.

No. Rubbish. Never will happen. Or do you think that is why I had to replace the one set after the wife drove it? I mean, the red light will come on and you will notice it, right?

EDIT: I've NEVER had to replace a parking brake either.... So I have NO idea WHAT you are talking about....

Maybe someone should invent a device that will blow the horns and yell "GET THAT DAMN E-BRAKE OFF YOU MORON" every 20 feet it goes without being disengaged. But someone will still find a way to screw it up.
