Default ASR light goes on

I am looking at a LT4 and the seller says the ASR light goes on when on the freeway, any ideas as to why it would do this. Seller says its because of staggered wheels, 19 rear and 18 front. I dont think he knows what hes talking about. Any ideas?

Tell us more about the car - it is a '96 I assume, GS? Aftermarket type wheels?
Etc.

Low brake fluid? If you can scan codes with a paper clip, I'd ask him if he'd let you see if there any codes.

Go back with some brake fluid in hand and a paper clip - check the fluid and for codes - then take it for a interstate drive. Report back of the results. Good luck.

The ASR is interrelated with various other components like the Brake System, etc. You even need to be cautious when bleeding the brake system to not affect the operation of the ASR. The fluid level in your reservoir could also cause the light to come on

If the diameter(s) of your front and rear wheels have a significant difference this may cause a problem with the ASR because the wheel sensors are seeing that difference in wheel speeds and the ASR may be activating thus, your light will be coming on.

I hope this helps.

All of this info is in Sections 5A & 5E2 of the Factory Service Manual.

Because ASR can be pricey to correct I would want to know what code is setting. Depending on asking price it could effect my offer. If asking price is already low I would expect it maybe expensive to fix. If it's only setting on highway vs in town driving it might not be a simple / inexpensive fix.

Do you know what the tire sizes are on the rims? I have found a lot of 96 cars running 18/19 rims in my search for rims and tires and none of them reported any ASR issues.
