Default Alternative to Race Ramps?

Does such a thing exist? Did a good chunk of research and Rhino Ramps are too steep or will collapse. Probably not likely but even if the chance of failing is say 2%, who wants to be in that 2%??

What would u say is the minimum lift for doing just fluid and oil drains changes etc? 7, 8 inches?

Has anyone made their own out of wood? Seems like it would be only like $30-40.

Many have made them out of wood. I just use four oak stumps much safer just jack it up.

I built a set of these. A little heavy but get the job done.

I used our heavy duty Rhino ramps, the ones that are rated to hold up my 2500HD. We have "giant logo blocks". They are plastic blocks you use to level up travel trailers. I was able to piece together a gentle incline to get our '96 up on the ramps. Because they do hook together, just like Lego blocks, it was easy to construct an extension.

Are these the preferable method, of course not, but they do work, and work safely.

Forum members who consider new Race Ramps too pricey, can frequently find used Race Ramps available at a much lower price right here on CF.

The problem I have with those home made ones and even the race ramps is the small lip to stop the wheel going off the front.
Any sort of enthusiastic driving or the ramps skidding forward could result in this happening.
I think I'll stick with jacking the car up and putting stands under it.

That image is just an image I grabbed to illustrate what my son and I built.

we used 5 2x8's so that makes them 7 1/2 inches high.

My son an I built them long to easily accommodate some of the lower vehicles we own/owned, Corvette, '89 IROC, '01 Z/28, '01 WS6 and '11 SS Camaro.

If you do a search of CF you will find some nice DIY ramps from Mike Mercury.

There is even a modification for lowered cars.

or you can go directly to his website for plans like I did.

A good way to prevent overshooting the ramp platform is to place a wheel chock in the path of the rear tire.
