My point is that I'm surprised to see a plain Jane automatic run of the mill corvette beat a rare clean zr1...that's my point..I didn't think it was confusing to figure out my point

Could have been politics and there is no logical answer if it was. Could have been ignorance, could have been the judge just liked white convertibles.

Amen!
Attend a couple hundred car shows like I have in 40 years and this will seem "normal" or common place. It's a shame but that's just the way it is. It you are dead set in entering a car show to win a trophy you better be a great promoter and suck ***, especially at "participate voting" shows. Oh sure there are always some real stand outs that have poured six figures into a car that win, but I have also seen cars like them go unnoticed too.
Just go to enjoy and meet people and talk cars, and if you win something consider it icing on the cake.

It was a real zr1...it was a judged show...not a big deal I just found in odd that such a plain car would be a rare zr1 car...my car didn't win and I could care less. Just surprised at the outcome that's all

I guess to be fair to "whichvette" question we need more info -
Was this a "Corvette" show judged by a corvette club?
Or was it a open class show put on by a car club - type of judging please.
Or local organization putting on a show to raise monies for a charity- type of judging?
How was to 2 cars in question presented - both with open hoods, doors, etc - undercarriage, motor, interior detailed?
Please remember a rarer, more expensive car does not automatically entitle it to be awarded a trophy.
The type of show and how's it judged makes all the differences.

There hasn't been a thing mentioned about 'condition' of the show cars. 'Nice' is not enough info. Was the ZR1 ultra clean, garage kept and presented in show quality fashion? Was the '94 a trailer queen with 15,000 original miles and as pristine as when it left the showroom floor? It's all in the details and how the car was represented. BLUDICE covered it well in his posts.
I've been attending shows since the 80's and even a local judge. I sure wouldn't give an award to ANY car that wasn't prepped for the show, with the owner feeling that just showing up is enough to win. I've seen unusual rides appear at shows and completely ignored with dirty windows, carpets that haven't seen a vacuum in months, and wheels that haven't been washed. Uh-uh, no trophy for you.
If the cars were prepared beautifully and EQUAL in most facets, then it might be a surprise to see the more unusual car lose, but then again, what if the show organizers don't like repeat trophy winners? I've been to those shows too. Of course it's been mentioned that it could be 'political'. That happens too. People Choice awards?? Forget it as far as the better cars winning. So much info needs to be known.

back in the 80s I built a very custom CJ5. totally custom, chevy motor, Muncie 4spd, hand built 6" lift, bumpers, wood dash with mountain scene, roll cage the whole thing from frame modifications on up. a fabulous yellow paint with red pearl that I shot myself. I did it all. showed it in a local "custom" car show I took 3rd place behind a Ford F250 with every bolt on option you could think of and a Blazer that had like a 2' lift with monster tires and 20 driving lights. after I found out I approached the judges and basically said, "I thought this was a custom car show not a how money can you spend on bolts ons car show". they just looked at me and went about their day. at that moment I realized that car shows will be about showing your car to the public and most trophies, not all, but most are as Trump would say, rigged. so drive your car, work on your car, show your car but mostly enjoy your car.
