A 2SS Camaro and Three Corvettes
Hi All,
My last thread was a "Thanks & Farewell" thread after I sold my '96 CE. And, I really didn't expect to be posting again in the Corvette Forum. However, my wife decided I needed a new car and we should check out a new 2SS Camaro. A local Chevy dealer gave us this one to take home over night. (That's my V6 Accord Coupe next to the Camaro.)
All I can say about the new SS Camaros is they are BEASTS! With the performance exhaust option, it puts out 460 HP and it felt like every bit of that.
I told my wife that if I were to trade in my Honda, I'd rather get another Corvette. I shared this conversation with the Chevy salesman and his response was... I happen to have one 2016 left which I could let you have for $49,000.00... why not take it home, tonight?
He didn't have to ask me twice and although a 1LT it also had the performance exhaust. I had driven one C7 before, a 7-speed with the owner in the right seat nervously giving me instructions for the whole ride! This C7 was like no other Corvette I had ever driven! This will sound strange to all but you old guys but it felt like what we all wanted the new C3's to feel like 40+ years ago. It was fast, comfortable, and felt like it was on rails going around corners. But, alas, my wife did not find the 1LT seats comfortable so it became a non-issue.
I then suggested that a C6 Grand Sport had wider seats she may find comfortable. She was up for it so I found a beautiful 2013 Black LT3 with 30K miles and, once again, the dealer suggested we take it home over night!
The seats were to her liking but, after driving the C7, the whole experience was kind of lack-luster. I discovered to my surprise that my Grand Sport "Dream Car" had been significantly surpassed by the C7s. It was boring compared to my C7 experience.
Several days later, this past Saturday, our Corvette Club was participating in a Corvette Show at a dealership about 40-miles away. So, we booked another 2SS Camaro test drive (she loves the Camaro's seats) and off we went. I didn't like this Camaro any better than the last one (you can't see out of the damn things!). And, while walking back into the dealership from where we parked the Camaro, I felt my heart LEAP out of my chest as we passed an exquisite 3LT C7 all-black convertible. It's a 2014 with 8K miles on it and Chevrolet Certified.
As I felt myself lusting for this car, I heard the following come out of my wife's mouth... "Let's buy it!"
So, we traded in my trusty Honda Accord for the following C7 and drove it home...
I am a very happy camper!

Thanks for sharing. That C7 is stunning and I'm glad you opted for it instead of the Camaro.
I didn't even get as far as you did and test drive a Camaro as it just took sitting in it to realize how crappy the blind spots were. Not to mention the front windshield.

I always figured the atrocious visibility out of the Camaro was to save the driver the embarrassment of seeing the C7 that just blew it's doors off.
Congrats on a great choice.

Awesome
So ... are the 3LT seats really better than the 1LT? I didn't care for the C7 seats, and I've heard many complain about the passenger seat.

YES! They're surprisingly like night and day. The '16 1LT seats were, in my wife's words, "chintzy." Very little adjustment and not nearly the padding and adjustability of the 3LT seats. I felt the same way about the driver's seat.

Smart sales person. Letting the customer take the car over night is called "The warm puppy close".

You are, however, correct. I was a warm puppy!
