i do, and I obviously chose to make my 85 a project car as well which makes your project of high interest for me. I think you will find it's a great platform for a project car! The ECM can be replaced with a much better aftermarket full kit including a wiring harness making tuning that LS6 much easier. The 85 does not have VATS or antilock brakes requiring the factory ECM or dash functions requiring that one year only , slow obsolete ECM. No third brake light is another draw for me, the last year for that. I suggest the Holley line of ECM 's available. They are LS capable, self learning.

happy to see it coming along. i picked my project 86 up for $650 and drove it home. everything works on it just fine. interior needs some love, and gaskets need to be replaced. i was amazed, just absolutely completely totally amazed. it runs better than my 85 we bought two years ago for 5k.

keep coming with photos!

Thanks guys! today i ordered a new prothane total suspension kit for it, and a new flywheel to mod for the ls6 to t5 conversion. new t5 clockable starter for the 153 tooth conversion as well. new ss304 stainless ls1 headers, and next is a custom kevlar clutch setup.

whats your plan on getting the T5 ready to accept the cbeam? You might have covered this already, so I apologize if so!

also I wonder if a Dana 44 or Dana 36 cbeam would be needed...length wise??

i own a machine shop, i am cutting down a ls1 flywheel and putting the 153 tooth ring gear on it. and using the gm .400 crank spacer and bolts. then i will use the 10.5" t5 clutch, pressure plate, and bearing. i am also modding an 168 gear driven starter to adapt to the 153 tooth setup. as far as the c beam, i wont know until i get to that point. but my car is a dana 44.

Nice; keep me (us) updated on the c-beam mods you do to connect the T5 to the Dana 44.

Most of the LS transplants I have seen on here end up going to 4L60 autos from a C4 due to issues mating up the T5 or other manual tranny's with the cbeam and flywheel/bellhousing issues and as I understand the ZF is difficult to find a bell housing/FW for to mate with an LS platform.

But hey, if you have access to a machine shop, a lot of things are possible and if you get that T5 mated, it is lighter than the ZF.

Again, nice project!

post script, also has a hurst short shifter kit on it.
Hopefully that T5 holds up! They break behind 305's so hopefully you can rebuild it with some stronger components? Why not go T-56? Cost?

I did a T-56 swap in my 84'. ZF6 would have been nice but it wasn't available near me when I did the swap.

Looks like a fun project, its always fun to start fixing up a new-to-you toy. Good luck!

Also there was a T5 swapped into a C4 in a thread from awhile ago but I don't remember where he got the adapter to mate the T5 with the C-beam. Search for the thread if you still need that piece, maybe the thread will tell you or at least give you an idea. (unless you plan on making the bracket yourself)

in my old age, the t5 will likely be plenty sufficient. not opposed to a t56 but couldnt find one locally. found this one and the price was right. thank you tho.

I would think it will be ok so long as you go easy on it but it's hard to tell. Had a buddy who is VERY nice to his cars despite a spirited WOT every great once in awhile and I mean GREAT once in awhile and his WCT5 lost 3rd gear (typical T5 failure) before he sold it. (Behind an L03 mind you, aka 170hp/255ft lbs 305 in a 3rd gen Firebird) T5's are cheap because they are weak and break.

Just looking out for a fellow enthusiast.
