Open hood after parking the car?
Recently I've been in the habit of opening my hood after I park the car for the evening in the garage. I figure all the engine heat trying to escape can't be good for the paint on the hood, esp combined with the heat in the garage from the hot florida sun. Anyone else do this or am I nuts? :) Am I hurting anything by doing this?

You're

Just as long as you have disconnected the under hood lights there should be no problem.

Springer, I do the same thing. When I pull it into the garage for the night, I usually raise the hood for 30 to 45 minutes to let it cooll quicker. Then I dust it off and put on the cover.
I don't like the idea of covering the car while its still too warm...

I've been doing this routine for years on both my cars. I think your reasoning is sound - can't hurt and I figure it might just extend the life of the rubber/plastic components under the hood. My reasoning is that when I'm ready to park the car for the evening, it's usually at it's hotest operating temp and leaving it sit in the garage with the hood down just causes everything to heat soak for quite a while. Why not let all that extra hot out of the engine bay - it's easy and I understand it burns 130 calories.

Yep, I do it all the time. Not only in the evening when I’m going to put it away for the night , but during the hot days when I’m home. Usually park in the shade and pop the hood to let some of the heat out. With the way the hood seals, it takes a long time to cool down with it closed.

Ya, I do it too whenever I take the car to the store or the mall. Funny, people always look at me like I am a freak. Actually, I did think about that. My original paint job was bad and guess where the clear-coat had failed. Yup, the hood, right in the middle. I am thinking of getting a heat shield to install on the center part of the hood. Anyone know where I can pick one up?

Yea, I started doing this w/ my 96. This thing seems to give off soo much more heat than my 85 did. I have a switch on the lights so I leave them off unless I need them. Pull in garage, leave garage door open, open hood and let cool for an hour or so before putting cover on. Guy

I only do it when I get home from hard driving, and only sometimes. You all are  :jester . I have removed a lot of engine compartment pieces to cool the motor down quicker. I don't drive my car when even a sent of moister is present, but my baby does cool down quick.

Guilty, I've been doing it for years. I do it on my Big Block(502/502) Monte also.

I just put in a small sub space warp field generator in mine to vent excess heat to the closest cool sub space manifold handy....
