C4 Storage Compartment subwoofers
I have a 86 vert, and wanting to drop 2 subs into the storage compartments...
This is kinda the look I am going for.
Keep in mind this is a convertible, so space is EVEN MORE limited.
Few questions:
Anyone tried dual subs? They would be so close to my brain cavity, they may be useless anyway.
Is there a vendor that makes them?
If not, has anyone made one before? I know a guy with a stereo shop, and he can, but if I have to do it, I think Ill try myself.
Would the ABS be OK being under a sub box? (I think so, but I wanted to ask anyway).
I am a tinkerer, but never made a sub enclosure before...
Pics?
Input?
Ideas?
All input is welcomed.
TIA

I have a 95 vert I was going to do something similar to mine. The one pictured looks like they made an enclosure/platform for the subs and amps because the floor the subs are in looks flush with the lip in front of the rear trunk area. I was looking at just removing the compartment frames and laying the carpet back , building the sub enclosure and setting that on top of the compartment openings.
I like the way they did theirs though. I might use some of their ideas for my car.
Keep us posted with your build if you do one. There's not a lot of custom stereo install info on these cars

What did you expect for a car THIRTY YEARS OLD?
Plus its a Corvette, its about the drive.
Not shattering windows on the car next to you.

The drive should have music accompanying it...
I am sure that most people would agree that the factory headunit is a bit lacking after 30 years.

I put a 12" in my passenger's side compartment. I literally blew the hell out of the thing w/my amp (broke the woofer cone) so now I'm looking for two shallow mount, 10" for each compartment. Link with pics HERE.
While I totally agree with the other posters that the 'Vette already comes with a fantastic sound system (the V8)...I feel that the 'Vette should be (and it was, when new) an "extrovert" in every way. The sound system is one of those ways. I feel that the car should provide an experience like an amusement park ride in every way...a killer sound system can do that all by itself. So...while I agree that the car already had fantastic features that make the sound system unnecessary, it does have a sound system and that element should perform as well as the rest of the car. Like an extrovert.
Put a couple subs in there and give 'er hell. Then report back!

Another Option
Here's another thought. I replaced the rear speakers in my '96 vert with 8" subs. There are pretty good sized sealed enclosures back there. Don't really need anything but a front stage in a car this small anyway. I made a false floor to flush mount the amp and crossovers for the front components. Here are some in progress pics from when I was building everything. Don't have the finished floor pics handy (covered it in black automotive carpet) and am still working on the sub trim, but you can get the idea.

Drifting
Just a comment from a Boomer so take it for what it is. While I love the sound of a healthy V8, I really love the duet between said V8 and Steppenwolf's "Born to be Wild". Just saying...
