Default Just picked up an '86

Been doing some trading and got a super deal on this 86. 103k miles, New GM crate 350, new trans, brakes on all 4 corners. Looks like C5 wheels with brand new tires. Not sure I'm liking the spoiler but we will see after I give it a full paint correction. Only 2 issues are an exhaust leak near passenger side manifold and the dash is dim. Owner said it is the photocell,
Runs real strong(not like my C5Z, but decent)

Love the snow, but you can keep it.
Your car looks beautiful, I myself love spoilers and when I had my C4, had the same spoiler, it will grow on you.
Remember your best friend is E-bay for parts, you be surprise to what you will find.
Enjoy your new ride!

Good luck! Nice car. Looks familiar.

You should have the BRAKE light glowing on the center dash information plate. Your missing the single wire leading to the brake master cylinder that measures pressure at the switch.

Nice car. This spring you can come up the the drags on wensdays and help me fight off the stangs, and the ricers. Hopeing to have my 86 running a bit faster by then. If your hood ever gets stuck because of cable failure,, come on over, I have the tool to pop that hood..( this is where the guys pop in and tell you about emergency hood poppers). Fellow named Mike terry ( C-1 section) lives down your way. Has a buet 54 vette,,and a couple of c-2s. oh, I live up in Avon. mines Gold and peeling like it has a sunburn.

good catch on that wire. Also, what about the hood holder open unit. My 86 has the rod, is this a mid year change and mine is on the drivers side? or maybe a hood replacement? Yours is in a whole lot better shape than mine...great find.

Nice car! I had a brand new 1986 in 86 and loved that car. I now have a 84 that I completely restored in 2012.

You''ll love the torque of the L98.

And speaking of C4 spoilers.

This is the original GM spoiler. You could buy it over the counter at your dealership.

Nice car. I've had my 86 since Aug this year. Same color as yours. As far as your dash being dim I suggest you talk to Bryan at www.batee.com he is a great guy and an expert at fixing these dashes. He either sells the parts for a DIY fix or you can send it to him. I chose to send mine to him and let him rebuild the whole thing. It works great and he is a real stand up guy. Prices are reasonable to on the cheap side.

I don't see the light in the dash. I tried to plug it back in but the two ends so not mate. I assume the master cylinder was replaced and the sensor is wrong maybe??

Congrats on your find. Hard to go wrong with a car that has a new engine and transmission. Enjoy!

Nice find....a few observations

Missing the OEM valve covers. (obviously)
That serpentine belt almost looks like a dual ribbed.
And your Brake Warning Switch connector is not plugged into the master cylinder switch.

All should be an easy fix when spring comes around.

Valve covers obviously are not original due to the motor being replaced with a crate motor. Plus correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the original ones Center bolt?
The brake warning switch connector does not match up. Tried to plug it in and the end on the plug is different from the master. I have to assume that the master was replaced with a different one. Really does not bother me, no light on in the dash

Metallic Flame Red, had a 87 that colour and mine had that type of spoiler on it. I installed it myself and looked at a lot of them before deciding on that style of spoiler. I think it looks the best for the body shape.

1986 is a year of change. the early year Vettes had iron heads and the latter had Alum heads. My 86 has the Alum heads and the center bolts. The drag strip opens next month up here by Brownsburg. The heads are a good way to know if you have an early or late 86.. the targa top is also different.
