This was just north of Atlanta a couple weeks ago after I got done using a nearby iced over parking lot as a skid pad.

This is my '95 on the day I bought it.

I drove it home about 400 miles in a snowstorm.

I had an '88 and a '94 that I drove all year even in the snow, but I never took pictures of me abusing them.

I don't mind driving my current cars any time the road doesn't have salt, but that doesn't let me drive them very much during the winter. (I can't believe I was stupid enough to move from Arizona to Illinois.)

Damn. The real winter will stick in Finland for a couple more months. Luckily my block heaters seem to work...

(It wasn't that cold on that particular day, just a few degrees below zero C, maybe something like 20 F)

Here in Wisconsin each city has an allotment of road salt that is determined by the usage from previous years. A couple of years ago a few cities actually ran out so they ordered more the following. There is so much paranoia about running out that they order much more than they need and by a normal winter there is a lot of salt they have to use up so they lay it on heavy. I mean HEAVY!. Its not unusual to find piles of salt remaining at intersections, where the truck stops but the salt spreader does not, well into April and even early May. It doesn't take more than a couple of nuggets of this salt thrown up under a frame or brake line to sit there all summer and rust out the section. I hate that stuff. Now they spray it with liquid salt, i believe its potassium chloride and calcium chloride, to enhance the melting characteristics in real cold weather. I understand this is even more corrosive. This is why my Corvettes are garaged from the first snow til the middle of spring.

And the thrill of firing up after the long winter might even be bigger than the downer of parking in the fall.
Here in NM we have storms that last for a day or two, then it can be sunny, warmish and dry again so i go through this cycle (park - sob, fire up - wheeeeee) several times each winter, HA!

This is how winter looks in New Jersey...at least for the moment. Last winter was warmer than usual with only one storm. But it was a big one! This year just one small snowfall that melted pretty quick...all the rain washed the salt away...keeping my fingers crossed...
