Red Caliper Covers

The car is an 85. That year the stock wheels were 16" with ugly factory wheels that looked like rotors themselves. The wheels now are 17" ZR1 replicas. Bigger, wider opening and better looking in my opinion. That left the small stock rotors showing. I replaced the stock rotors with the exact same factory sized ones just because that's what I wanted to keep. They seem to perform quite well for me.

When I purchased my '91, the car had the covers on. The seller tried to tell me the car had Brembo brakes. I saw through the BS and got him to knock off some more money off the car.
It's a really nice car and it did make my white car pop a bit, but first chance I had I took them off. If the OP likes them. That's cool. It just wasn't for me. But maybe I feel that way because of the previous owner of my car tried to spoof me.

I just installed these red caliper covers from Summitt Racing. While I do know that they do absolutely nothing, and there are no special upgraded brakes on the car, I think they look pretty good. They are fairly pricey at $199.00, but what the heck. What do you guys think?

Painted mine
I painted the calipers on my Impala. They have retained color for a couple years, i just wipe them off every once in a while. I did it myself so it was under 50 bucks. I think it looks better than the covers IMO.

I'm one of those weird types (maybe the only one?) who actually prefers the stock wheels. And I'm old enough to remember when those 16" wheels were considered crazy big.
If I had ZR1 wheels, I'd have to have the ZR1 to go with it. Get this though, I don't like the red paint they used on the ZR-1. When my stock base '96 was parked among the heavy breathers at MR4, my red was better, IMO. Sorry, Paul.
But I do like your red calipers! And I've wasted more on less important stuff, so screw the cost. Hell, I bought a key fob before finding out my PKE is shot!

I liked my original 16" wheels when I first got the car years ago. But as time went on I had a hard time finding tires for it. I was held hostage to buy the only 1 or 2 brands that were left available to fit those rims. Then I got hooked on the ZR1 wheel look. I love these wheels and the way they look on a C4. I keep the wheels highly detailed and that's why I wanted the stock calipers to appear cleaner looking. Putting "big brakes" on my car, and the way I drive it, it wasn't neccessary for me. As I stated to another member here, It's not a race car.

Wouldn't it be boring if everybody had the same taste and everyone's car looked the same ? We would probably be still back in the realm of Henry Ford, when you could have any color you wanted, as long as it is black.
As I and so many other have said, they look fine. Quit trying to justify yourself to folks on the internet.
My wife asked me last night whether we wanted to keep ours oem/stock or what. I told her, nope, I am putting my spin on it to make it the car I want. It will be a long time (if ever) that the C4's and beyond escalate in price like the 1's,2's and early 3's have done.
So we may as enjoy them :-).
Years ago I had a 84 1/2 Mustang 5.0. It came with metric sized wheels. It too was limited to a slim range of available tires, so the originals came off. The wheels on our '96 are going to be replaced when funds are available.

If you have rims that show off the calipers, they do need fancied up beyond 98cent walmart paint ;')
seen some touched up, drop of paint in the alen bolt bottom, then black on the edges to define their shape. made them stand out.

I respect your opinion on that. The impala has been my experiment car so if I screw stuff up I don't care. To me its about as bad as doing it to an unmodified mazda or similar car and that happens all the time.

The machining of those covers is not much different than required for the real calipers. I would say the cost is justified. If you want it to look great it needs slotted/drilled rotors.

I have the same covers on mine and like them very much. Had a quite a few compliments on them, people saying they really show good when the car is rolling down the road.
