Default Dealers say the funniest things

Searching autotrader I found this comment on a 95

"This gorgeous 1995 Chevrolet Corvette is the rare family vehicle you are looking for. This really is a great vehicle for your active lifestyle. Not only does your next car have to be a workhorse during the day but it must double as a kid carrier after school and then triple as a Saturday night, out-on-the-town machine."

Also found a 96 ZR1 for under $8K

It must have the optional fold down rear seat. Very rare.

yeah I couldn't believe he took a picture of the interior and left an OBD II scanner in the seat. makes you wonder.

It is the color combo I'm looking for but the price seems a bit high for the miles.

It's parked right next to a 1983 Corvette.

Searching for the unsuspecting buyer who has no clue and some how this goes on until the roof falls in. Then they turn up in a new location under a different name.

Bingo ! We have had some of them around here. Early last summer during our search for our Vette, I went to look at a 1998 that was advertised. The dealer told me that it was gone, I wouldn't have wanted it as it needed a hydraulic cylinder and probably clutch and that he had wholesaled it off.

We found it across town sitting on one of those little buy here pay here type places that actually was in a nicer part of town, situated next to a bunch of legitimate dealers. They had advertised it as being driven daily by them and a great car. I still had the VIN so I knew otherwise.

Fast forward a couple months, we drove past and the place is empty, they are gone.

Know the feeling, I went to look at a C3 last week listed as for sale by owner. Got there and it was a guy running an unlicensed car lot out of his front yard. he had the last title ( AL won't issue a title older than 79 now) from 95. he didn't have a bill of sale from where he bought it. it had supposedly been through a few owners since 95 when it was stored away by a "famous person". As a restoration project it was probably a good deal. Just more than I wanted to get into.

Some dealers say the car was owned by an older retired guy. As if that's supposed to imply the car was babied. Have you ever seen how some older people drive? They hit everything in the way!

I guess everyone is missing the fact they suspended production of the ZR1 in 1995? IOW, there was no ZR1 in 1996!!!

In actuality our car was owned by an old lady and the story was true. We found the original bill of sale buried under some stuff in the book in the center console. They never looked there in the book. Her insurance cards were there also. She bought it for her 50th birthday and only drove it 11,800 miles in 20 yrs. But we got it from a large Chevy dealership in Dayton, Ohio. They didn't want to deal with the little issues a 20 yr old Vette had (it has the issue with the blend doors unique to 96's that I have to fix, and had a sagging headliner - fixed), plus they had 10 or more new ones they didn't want to distract attention from I would guess.

Sometimes they are not "pinocchio" and lying till their nose grows.

But for the most part, there are not much lower (in general) than car salesmen on the "buy here / pay here" type of places.

You'd think that with how you can find info on almost anything on the internet these ridiculous ads wouldn't exist anymore. Maybe in 20 yrs when EVERYONE uses the net they'll be gone.
