Default Chilton or Haynes for 1990 base coupe??

I have some electrical and vacuum gremlins I need to chase down.on my 1990 base coupe. I don't need the full on factory manual just something that has wiring diagrams and troubleshooting methods.

Which of these do you guys recommend?

Neither. Save yourself grief and get a Factory Service Manual. I have the hard copy. But kind off wish I had the digital version for searching.

A chilton will cost 25 bucks. A digital copy of the FSM can be bought on ebay for $30

Another vote for FSM. Unless you are just planning to sell the car.

I too went hard copy, and wish I had gone CD.

I would give you my Haynes, but it was a gift from the wife. Also, I need something to swat flies with.

Chilton and Haynes are really useful. You can set them on the ground to keep your FSM clean

Another recommendation for the factory service manual. I too have the hard copy. Probably better on CD if you prefer that format. Not expensive and well worth the cost.

LOL points taken! I will get the FSM on disk! I don't plan on selling the car unless the gremlins just become to annoying!

Useful for what else? It scratches my *** if I use it for toilet paper. Kinda expensive for starting a fire since I reuse old paper from free places.

I have both. The FSM stays in the house. The other is good for quick info and keeping close at hand when working under the hood. Its good for general info, very general.

Yes, very general. Car has 4 wheels, gas tank, battery, etc. Wouldn't trust the circuit diagrams since I have found faults in the past.

I have all 3, sometimes the photos are helpful, but the Helm FSM comes first.

Back in the 2000s,Alldata was just a poor scan of the FSM for my Merkur and a poor one at that. Crooked pages on a disc and sometimes incomplete. Are they any better now?

If your Merkur was anything like the '85 we had, you used that service manual quite often.

Yes. Especially handy when you are modified. Different cam, ported head, vane air change to MAF, 88 Turbo Coupe ECM, exhaust, intercooler and C3 transmission with custom mount. Also I had a valve to keep the Turbo spooled up till it hits a point of about 25 psi. As a result, head gasket replacement was a monthly deal.

Ours was just mildly modified....turbo, injector, etc. We just kept destroying those old T-9 transmissions. We used to keep a spare to swap out every few months or so.

I broke the C4 and gave up on it. Found me a C3 bellhousing for a 2.3 Pinto and built up the C3. Got a custom length driveshaft and put it place. Mock up a mount for the C3 and had one made. Worked better.

If you have the opportunity to drive one of the new Camaros with the 2.0t 4cyl, it reminds you very much of the old XR4ti.

Possibly. I'll have to go look it up. Bring the C4 and make like I want to buy it and they might let me test drive one that they have on the lot.
