EGR Code 32. Worth the hassle?
1985 coupe, all stock L98. Went for a long cruise last week and the car threw Code 32 twice. Both times were after running interstate speeds for 30-40 miles. I'm guessing that was when the EGR decided to try and cycle?
Been reading on troubleshooting and am trying to decide if it's worth the effort to fix. I had no plans on deleting it and actually think it performs a decent function even though I wouldn't miss it if it were gone either.
The light doesn't come on under my normal Vette driving excursions. I don't drive it hard but I usually stick to back roads for fun.
Trying to decide if my OCD can handle the light coming on occasionally or do I start digging?

EGR only comes on when the engine is over 170F and at part throttle for a period of time, which typically is Hwy driving.
I ignored mine for years before removing EGR altogether. Never had any issues.

My '88 did that too. The conditions for setting the code 32 usually were met only after about 10 or 15 miles on the highway.
I looked at ways that some "tricked" the computer into not turning on the light....It didn't work for me. I finally tracked it back to the EGR valve and replaced it.
The first one from Advance Auto was bad. The vacuum diaphragm didn't seal. I took it back and they got out another one. We tested it at the store and it failed also. Plus the second one was the wrong part in the right box. I got an AC Delco one online and it worked fine.
Good luck.

I realize that brakes have nothing to do with the system, but when I get on a roll......

1985 also I was getting that code , I made sure to clean the connector and check the vacume lines. Some are under TPI, but haven't had the code in a year and just cleaned , checked lines
Good Luck

check the nipple. with a pin. its possible that it is corroded shut and when the egr valve opens to apply vacuum which lifts the diaphram and allows the exhaust gas to be recirculated, .......the nipple is corroded shut and none of the vacuum is being applied to the diaphram due this.

code 32
Have an 1985 that had the code 32 which only came on after highway driving. Problem solved. There is a sensor that is screwed into the EGR valve that goes bad. Not hard to replace at all. Just be careful screwing in the new sensor the stuff at the top of the new sensor needs to treated with respect or it can come apart. This code 32 was about 25 years ago, have had no code32's since I repaired it.
