What would a 1996 corvette in excellent, and I mean excellent shape be worth? Thanks

Corvette DNA shows the following:

EXCELLENT CONDITION / 50k miles or LESS
Coupe Auto: $11,250
Coupe Stick: $12,250
Convertible Auto: $14,000
Convertible Stick: $15,000
Collectors Edition: $12,750

SHOW CONDITION / 50k miles or LESS:
Coupe Auto: $16,500
Coupe Stick: $17,750
Convertible Auto: $20,500
Convertible Stick: $21,750
Collectors Edition: $18,500

Obviously there are other options like an LT4 motor, Performance Axel, Hard Top Convertible, Dual Targa Tops, etc that may alter the prices above - but this will give you at least a good starting point. This goes without saying that the mileage will greatly impact the above values.

The 96 I found has 48000 miles and he's asking $12000.

Hard to say without knowing more about the car. What model, how equipped. Pictures? Where is it located?

A very small percentage of 21 year old cars with 48k miles are in "excellent" condition.

It may or may not be worth $12k.

Without the details about the car and pictures (interior and exterior), there is no way for us to tell you if its a good deal or not.

A lot depends on current market conditions and geographical location. Right now the used Vette market is pretty healthy, especially here in northern California, as a lot of C7 buyers have traded-in or sold the Vettes they had. So it's a buyer's market.

I can tell you from my personal experience, selling a 1996 LT4 Collector Edition in darn near excellent condition, with just over 48K miles, it was very hard to get close to what I was asking. I ended up taking about $2k less than I'd have liked to get. That having been said, I was not in a position to wait it out for a motivated buyer, as I'd already made the purchase of my new Vette. Total time on the market for me was about one month. If I had the option of being more patient, maybe I'd have gotten closer to what I perceived to be market value.

In the current market, I think those Corvette DNA numbers are optimistic. Not so much that a super patient seller couldn't find a buyer to pay those numbers, but these cars don't move quickly and you get a lot of nibblers that dwindle the price down over time. It's just the market as it stands right now.

Give us more details on the '96 you're looking at. If it has an online listing, link us to it. I've spent the last 3-4 years with an eye on this market (and bought mine 2 years ago) and there's a lot of people like that around here to advise you, but there are a lot of details that change things significantly. "A '96 in excellent condition" isn't nearly enough.

As I have said it's on Craigslist Nashville under 1996 corvette. He's asking $12000. He said its flawless inside and out. He said I wouldn't be disappointed even if I drove hour away to come look at it.

I paid 13k for my 94 manual trans coupe with 14k miles that looks like it just rolled out of the showroom. totally original except tires. from what I see around I got a pretty good deal but I was looking for a long time. I wanted the best condition one I could find with a manual trans.

Is it the White on Red car? Doesn't look bad but need more pictures, especially under the hood.

How many owners? Can you get a car fax? Does it come with any service history? How old are the tires, brakes etc.

To be honest I never believe a seller that tells me I won't be disappointed.

If you like the car then by all means go look at it, drive it and make an offer if it holds up to your scrutiny. From what I see, the car has already been on CL for 3 weeks and is the highest priced one on Nashville CL. Personally I would offer $8k and wouldn't pay more than $10k. Too many other cars to choose from.

5 owner car. He said it's was scratched on the driver side on garage post but fixed without a problem. But the car fax said side impact with another vehicle. When I brought that up he said he didn't need to sell it if that was a problem. He's a body man by trade and said it's a great car. I don't think he'll take $10,000 or less. I'm very interested in what this car looks like. Why don't you call him and see what you think and let me know what you think I should do. He sounds very convincing. If you don't that's fine. Thanks

If it were me, that's all I'd need to hear to walk away.

Your probably right. I have a problem of letting my emotions by a car. I know there's others out there. Is the lowest mileage the best way to go in your opinion?

I couldn't find the ad in the Nashville CL listings but found a few other really nice ones. Saw a 1995 with 6000 original miles for $11k. The pictures are crappy but I would look at that one before I wasted my time on the 96 for $12k.

Just saying.....options are out there. Be patient!!

I talked to the one with 6000 miles. Real nice guy. I passed on it two weeks ago. Wish I hadn't. There are three people ahead of me now. He said call him in a week to see if it has sold. Someone has a deposit on it.
