Default Worth reviving?

Not my car. Not affiliated with it.

https://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/6060413439.html

The buyer seems to want it in the hands of someone who will make it work again.
I suspect it will take $20k to make it worth $9k.
That Doug Nash transmission scares me away from it.

I doubt it. Like you said, it would take a lot more than it's worth to bring it back.

When is the last time you saw a valve stuck from sitting? me, never! Was it left to "loose" when he installed the heads, did it then strike the piston and get bent? I too thought about "cruzing" over to Richmond to have a look. If your lucky, just need a valve job and a pushrod, bad luck..need an engine.

Spent less buying my 84 and it was in better shape as far as paint goes, hard to tell as far as interior goes. I'd stay FAR away from that car, you thinking it would take 20k to restore might be a little off, but I would say atleast 10k (including a 6k dollar paintjob and you doing all the mechanical work)

No, you insure it for $9K and go take scenery pics off a cliff and it somehow rolls off.

I would say parts car but I don't see any usable parts. It's a shame but I think it's days are done. Add should read..."Corvette for sale to a good home. Needs: everything"

Needs a can of gasoline or a stick of dynamite.

Hard life? I would almost wonder how a car ever gets that bad...you would almost have to try to make it that way. I've had 25 year old work trucks that looked in better shape.

Good car for an energetic group of youtube teens to play with. Get it running and rattle can it or wrap it and drift it or what ever.

Or its time to be stripped and raced.

Aside from the stuck valve weirdness, i would say that it is easily saveable by the right person. Someone that can do all of the work themselves. We bought my brother in laws car in a similar shape. I hadn't run in at least 7 years so we didn't know the actual status of the engine or tran. We considered a rebuild for each into the estimated repairs and bought it anyway. We had to go through the complete fuel system from the tank to the injectors and sort out some questionable mechanic work and it ran great so score. We have about $4500 into it now and that includes all new suspension, wheels & tires, and the interior put back together pretty nice. I figure by the time I paint it and we do a few more things we will have his car a real nice driver / auto crosser for $5500 to 6K. That is cheaper then you can expect to buy a "nice" one that would still likely need some repairs. So if you can be smart about buying your parts new and used and do all of the work yourself this could be a good car. I would wait a month or so and after the ad is still up there I would tell him I would give $1500 for the car. Call me if you decide to sell otherwise have fun parting it out

Seller is delusional. Seriously saying "PRICE IS BOTTOM DOLLAR CASH. lowballers dont waste your time,IF YOU OFFER LESS I will expect to keep parts of the car." What's he thinking of keeping? The "new" cluster that sat out in the weather for years.

I agree. I'd haul it away if you paid me $2000 to do the job.

To a point, I agree. That said, say you bought your car for $1000 and dumped $4500 into it and you say it is worth $5500, you dumped a bunch of time into it. If I buy a $5500 car and sink $500 into it for parts and I spend way less time screwing with it and more time driving it, I'd have to disagree and say that my time screwing with it is worth something. You can't just count parts and say it is cheaper. Most repair jobs I know of are "time and material". To count one and not the other is kinda messing up calculations.

Either we are hearing a recorded roar of the paper tiger or he thinks "because it has the corvette emblem it is worth more money even if it is a POS."
