Default Done with round 1 of maintenance for a road trip next month

This car just turned 86k and really hasn't been driven much. I did plugs, wires, cap, rotor, pcv, fuel filter, tranny filter and gasket, oil change, new shocks all the way around, and all new pads and rotors on all 4 corners, new Silverstar headlights, fixed the temperature cable, blower resistor, new wiper blades, new water pump, hoses, thermostat, fresh antifreeze, new serpentine belt, greased it up, and new outer window seals because the originals were busted. Car is a 1986 and getting close to being ready to go.

Looks like a very good start, how far will your road trip be?

You sure covered the bases. Your tires seem to have plenty of tread but when you said the Corvette hasn't been driven much, check those date codes. For that kind of trip, you want 'fresh rubber'. Anything over 6 years old, bye bye. Have a great trip!

Awesome, I have had my 96 on many trips on the east coast almost every state east of the Mississippi, comfortable and fun. One of the fun things is seeing the look on peoples faces when they look down and see the license plate, and say ,wow you drove all the way here from NY? Yes I did! Puts a little credibility in the C4 bank.

Well for round 2: my car came with 2 tops, a cracked in multiple places clear and falling out/sagging headliner hardtop. Fixed the hardtop headliner, then i replaced the air filter (the one i took out could be the original), cleaned the mass air flow sensor, and threw in a new O2 sensor.

Hey Cj KYB has a 40 dollar rebate on those shocks if you bought 4 at once, I just bought 4 KYBs today as the Monroes were horrible on the freeway from LA to Vegas and back.
Youre looking ready but the rebate does have a time frame for purchase good luck

In fact check it out

KYB's are on mine, I'm going to refresh them shortly (have the new shocks now). On the question of tires, I just went through that, if you're looking for new tires and want to do a little upgrading, I went with 18" rims and tires, no spacers and they fit just like the oems did.
I only found one place for the time I liked, if interested send me a pm and I'll get your the website I used.
Sounds like you're doing all the things you should be.

the tread on my tires is very good so im going to just keep them, wheels aren't in bad shape. im going to for one keep this project on the super cheap side, do the basics and try to do as much as I can myself.

Cool, feels good when you know the important parts are new and working properly. I did all my stuff last before my annual May trip to the mountains. I also took Brillo and scrubbed all the suspension parts I could reach, but I'm OCD when it comes to cleaning parts. Consider scheduling your trip with us this year, way big fun, info here: http://www.zr1.net/forum/showthread.php?t=27509

Might be optical illusion but the brake fluid looks dark. Have you flushed them in the last 2 years? I'd suck everything out and fill it with fresh fluid and flush all lines. If the lines are original or old, I'd swap them for braided SS hose.

no illusion! the car has stock lines which actually seem very good. anyones guess how old the brake fluid is, car has a good solid brake pedal. ive only owned the car for about a month. kinda bought is as a cheap gag type vehicle. problem is its actually shaping up.

Dad had a set of tires on his car that never stayed outdoors. 25K or so. Armor All or whatever it is. Wonderful. One day there was the "thump-thump-thump" sound and he thought it was something else. I mean, the tires are 10 years old but pampered. One day it blew out and he would have hit the semi at 75mph if he didn't pass it 2 miles ago. Tore out the fender too. As far as you go, I don't care if you never drive that car. Stopping is another story. That is important.

Some people like dark meat. Fair enough. I prefer light meat. I also don't like dark brake fluid and tend more to the lighter side. Mercedes flushes them every 2 years as PM. I do that on all my vehicles whether they are ATV, Motorcycle or cars.

my rule is 6 years if parked outside everyday and 10 if garaged and pampered with low miles.
im of the light meat persuasion, never had dark.

Do tire shops and mechanics have the same rule there as here? 10 years and the tire can come off but we don't put it on? I heard of it but never personally experienced it. My F-body tires were done in a year of daily driving. Now that it is spread over the 5 vehicles I have where 2 are DD partway till the C4 gets out and 1 is a tow truck and one is a car that is so tattered on the outside and leaking diesel and not worth fixing that we use it just to take the dogs to the park and parts car.

As far as women go, I've not had dark yet. They do say once you try it you'll never go back but who knows. I'm not sure I can afford a divorce to find out
