Winter Storage-preventing flat spots on tires
What do you think? Good idea or waste of time. It's a high density foam about 3'' thick. The car doesn't move from November to April so I thought flat spots may be an issue. At the very least I'm now able to crawl underneath the car to clean her up a little during the winter months. Just thought I'd share.

That's a good idea. Just for perspective, I took mine out last Sunday after sitting in a cold garage for just a month and I had little flat spots on my Comp T/As(former owner's tire choice). Sitting for 4-5 months, one would assume you would have hella flat spots.

:seeya Hey Scott
Sorry to say it, but it won't do much. The little bit of flat spot you will get will work it's way out after a few miles of driving in the spring. Tires have come a long way over the years. But hey, it looks cool anyway.
You might want to put a tarp down on the concrete as concrete usually holds a lot of moisture. Hope the rest of the winter goes by quick.

Nice idea. Probably will minimize any flat spotting. I always pump my tires up to max pressure while in storage. Also helps to minimize flat spotting. :flag

It doesn't look like it's really sinking in to the foam board. The foam will probably flat spot it just the same, if the contact patch is the same. You either need some more squishy foam, or to cut the foam to the same contour of the tires, so the weight was distributed across the tire better.
Good idea though. My cheap tires get flat spotted just sitting overnight.

Personally a waste of time, althoug it probably doesn't hurt. Your tires flatting from long term sitting will round out once you drive the car and doesn't cause damage to the tires. I usually just inflate them to maximum pressure when the vette is sleeping for the winter.

Shouldnt hurt anything, but it wont help much either. Just be sure that your tires are at a high pressure until you start driving it again, that will help more than the foam will.

Wow, letting your vette sit in garage for 5-6 months without driving it. I can't even wait over a weekend. :auto:

I'd say jack stands the best bet, or you can purchase the tire cradles.

couldn't hurt, I use rubber backed carpet, it seems to help some with short term (overnite) storage.
Some tires are worse than others, but after a few miles their back to normal.

Actually I think you have shown a great way to make custom ramps for the vette!!! I've got to think about this a little, but with 2 stacked you add 6" of clearance, got to check at Lowe's or Home Depot & see how thick and how much this costs.

Put mine up on jack stands.

I think that should work well. I have heard of people using boards under their tires and I guess they work good.

I've used high density foam for the past 3-4 years of storage and so far it has worked well. I say it's better then the hard concrete.
