OptiSpark Help!!!
I am looking to buy a 92-95 Vette and been hearing alot of people talking about problems with the OptiSpark.
How can I check if it is working well?
How much does it cost to repair or must it be replaced?

If the car is running good, the OPTI is working fine.
Cost is anywhere from $1200 to have it done to less if you do it yourself. Don't forget to do the water pump when yoiu do the OPTI

Re: OptiSpark Help!!! (Rex Ruby)
Don't let that scare you away from a good deal. The original opti may last over 100k miles. Mine went out on my '92 at around 105,000 miles. I replaced my own along with plugs, wires, ignition modual, water pump, hoses, etc, etc. It's not that bad of a job, the opti can NOT be installed incorrectly. One only needs to be carefull and follow the manual. If you don't plan on wrenching on your own vette (somepeople don't like to) the opti alone shouldn't be more than $700 at the dealer. Hope I've helped ! ! ! !

Re: OptiSpark Help!!! (CanadaVette)
If its running good you should be ok. Look for oil/coolant leaks @ the front of
the engin if it very bad could be trouble ahead for the opti.
About 350$ from Jeff Kopp, 450$ Corvette Central with vent kit installed.
YES you can mess up a opti install, I have heard on this fourm of guys not getting the shaft keyway lined up and forcing the unit on.
I have replaced mine, the hardest part was removing the balancer.
GOOD LUCK. :seeya :flag

Re: OptiSpark Help!!! (CanadaVette)
OPTIS DIE PREMATURELY when they get wet from big puddles, the waterpump drips on them or the intake leaks oil on them.
Lots of contacts on the web for optis, Dealer gets about $400-$500 though and a few hours to put in. I would say it should cost you about $700-$800.
$1,200 is highway robbery.

The dealer lists them at $649.00  I got the dealer down to $450.00 but it turned out I did not need the opti. I only needed a water pump. If the car is runnning fine..you do not need the opti.
