Need Feedback On Sears DieHard Batteries.
I need to replace my battery and was considering a Sears DieHard. Any experiences with this brand battery, good or bad, would be appreciated. Also, please feel free to recommend a good alternative. Thanks in advance.

I have never really had any problems with them, the silver and gold series are the best. It pretty much works like this, the more you pay the longer the warrantee. I will probably get one when My cars battery dies.

Have had good luck with Die Hard. Also convenient for any warranty claims. Hard to find a place where Sears is not nearby. Have tried other batteries over the years & had too many warranty problems with others.

Yep...there's always a Sears nearby, and they stand behind their stuff. I put a Diehard Gold in the car I had before the Vette, and it was still going strong 5 years later when I sold the car.

Make sure when you get it, that it is fully charged. I had three Diehards, only one bad experience.
I brought it home, it wouldn't start the car, the battery was beyond dead. I brought it back, they charged it(I wanted them to give me a new one). I got ithome, my car started up.
The next morning it was dead again, so I charged it myself. After about a week, it was dead again.
I kept bringing it back to Sears, they wouldn't replace it.
After a while I discovered that it had 4 dead cells. So I went to a different Sear and traged it in on a Diehard Silver(the old one was a Gold), the silver one now resides in my truck, and after 6 years, not one single problem.
The first one I bought was a Diehard Incredicell, which isn't made anymore(because it was too good of a battery) lasted me a little over 8 years, I traded that one for the dead Gold.
Just make sure before you leave that if you have any problems that you will get a replacement rather than throwing it on a charger.

Technically, a battery needs to be stored on a "float charge" to simply maintain voltage. Date codes should be noted as well when purchasing a battery. If you want to go "by the book", don't buy a battery that's been sitting on a shelf for more than six months; there's a decent chance it will give you trouble.

I had one Die hard Gold die after 3 years and Sears gave me a new one free. The other Die Hard Golds in my other three cars lasted five years before I replaced them. I do not like to take a chance with a battery that "might" go bad on these deserted Arizona roads so I change them after 5 years but not because they gave me any trouble.
I just bought a Die Hard Gold for my 95 and a Optima for my 88. The red top did not really fit in the 95 but was a good fit in the 88.
After I brought the new Die hard home I checked the water level on this new battery and it was low. I added about 3/4 of a shot glass of distilled water to each cell ( to the top of the split ring which is about an inch from the top of the battery)
I really would go with the Red Top if I had a choice because sometimes crooks will disable the cars alarm by sticking a screw driver through the gills and puncturing the battery so it can not power the alarm. They can not do this on the Optima.
At this time I installed a quick dis-connect switch on the battery. If you disconnect the battery when you are not going to be driving for a week to months you will not need to charge it..

I have a Die Hard in the IROC for several years now.
One summer after a 3mo stay in Phoenix I returned to NY to discover it had died; Sears just gave me a new replacement with no usage charge.

I got the Diehard Gold. Pretty good so far, going on two year+.
No problems with the several Gold series I've had.

Re: Need Feedback On Sears DieHard Batteries. (skeet)
I've always used Diehards simply because they were easy to come by and the warranty coverage is very convenient. I killed a Diehard Silver in my Ford within two weeks or so because of a bad alternator. They replaced it no questions asked. I just recently replaced it again after 6 years (because of more electrical problems unrelated to the battery that kept draining it). I also put a Gold in my vette a few weeks ago. It comes with an 80 month warranty (last part of it is prorated), it should run you about $90 bucks out the door.
They may not be the best battery, but IMO, the no-hassle warranty is worth it.

Iv'e had several of their gold batteries and they replaced one for free at 2.5 yrs old. Some of them have 3 yr free replacement and 100 mo pro rata. There are lots of stores nationwide as well. I like them.

Make sure they know how to remove and replace the side panel. They put a battery in my car 2 years ago and didn't line up the side panel when replacing. It and it got pinched and cracked by the drivers door when it was closed. Not a big crack, but I still freaked!!

I have heard of Die Hards blowing up? Acid everywhere :cuss but that's been in this climent during the summer. Iv'e been looking around for an aluminum closed box just in case.
Also, I believe Sears is charging $50.00 to install the battery in our cars (because of the hassle with the gill panel.
So I'd take it out & put the new one in my self . . . . .

I used to own a '78 280Z..replaced the old AC Delco battery with a new incredicell from Sears. The car crapped out on me before that battery ever did. It lasted me 8+years also. Since the incredicells aren't made anymore , I guess the Sears Gold Diehard will be my next one when needed!
