Default Price check on a 1996 Collector Edition with 12,000 miles

Hey everyone, I'm close to buying a 1996 Corvette Collector's Edition with all options except it has the base suspension and the LT1 instead of the LT4. The car only has 12,000 miles and is in pristine perfect condition. The dealership wants $22,000 for it. Would this be a good price? I know C4 values are low because of the C5 and the impending C6, but they won't go any lower than 22K.

You can find an CE with the LT-4 for that money if you look hard enough.

Dealerships will always try to bend you over a barrel on the price because it's a "rare special" Vette, it's summertime, etc, etc. $22K seems a bit high for an LT-1 CE even with 12,000 miles. Anyone else?

Yeah, that is the line they are giving me. He sold it new, gave me the exact history of the car, its so hard to find these C4's with miles this low, etc etc. He has already reduced the price twice since I first started tracking it. I would be interested in other opinions...thanks!.....

That's too high. You can have the LT4 for that money. I wouldn't go over $18k. The low miles are nice, but doesn't command that price from the dealer.

:iagree: The dealer probably got it for $14-$15k. I'd start at $17k and not go past $18k.

If the car is truly in pristine condition with 12000 miles I'd go to $20K. You are essentially buying a 1 year old Corvette for half price.

There aren't too many around with only 12000 miles. I bought my 94 vert a year ago with 23000 miles and I'm glad I found one with low miles. It makes a difference in the driving experience. A low mileage vette has a lot fewer speaks, rattles, etc. than an older one. The do loosen up over time and if you want to replace lots of rubber, etc. to bring it back to new it can get expensive.

If you've been driving a rattle trap you'll probably think a high mileage vette is an improvement but I had a Supra and a Q45 before getting the vette and I would have been unhappy with an 80,000 mile example.

I bought my LT-4 CE with Z-51 and 39,000 for less than that from a dealer. I would hope you could get an LT-1 CE for under 20K.

:iagree: I would say 18,000 would be a good price. I bought mine with 50,000 miles and paid $15,000 for it...

I agree with everyone else! I think their asking pricing is at a minimum $2000 too high. If you plan to drive the car and put 10K to 20K miles on it the value will drop DRAMATICALLY!! In my opinion, high prices for low miles cars MIGHT be worth it if you plan to store it and keep the miles low!!

Look around, you can find MUCH BETTER deals. And hold out for an LT4!! :D

Iam goneing to disagree with everyone on this. 12k miles should fetch
a premiun. I have 14k on my CE and there is no way I would sell mine
for 22k. It took me too long to find it and it is that good. Mine is also
loaded with Z51 suspension and both roofs. Good luck.

IMO, $22K is too much for that. You can get a FRC or a 98 for that price. Sometimes dealers won't budge if they recently received the car. I'd keep looking. I just sold my rare '96 compitition yellow for less than that. Have you thought about a C5 for that price?

:iagree:

I think C-4 and C-5 prices will go down a bit more.

NADA has that car listed @ $23,400. I would think at 20K you would be stealing it. :flag Offer them 18,000 and see what happen's I bought a new car once (thats the last time I make that mistake) they wanted something like 22,000 I offered 18 thay said no I said I'll be in the bar across the street for the next hour if you change your mind come over and get your check. 20 min later they got there check. Buying at the end of the month helps too they need to pay the floor plan, mortage, ins, tax etc.

The car is an LT1 with black interior. I would love a red interior, but those are rare. They're sweet though...

I got my CE /Red guts /LT4 w/29000 miles for $22,000. I probably paid a little too much for it but I would do it again. If you really want an LT-4 hold out, they are out there.

I really would like the red interior, but it isn't critical. I know the LT4 has the extra power, but this car is going to be my daily driver and I think it would be easier with an automatic. I have to deal with traffic to and from work. I think I am going to buy the car if I can get them down to 20K. I'll see what happens. Thanks everyone

Seems like the dealers cost is too high. Look around in Florida and save some money. If it is to be a daily driver, get an LT1 low mileage and buy an extended warranty with the extra monry and you will enjoy the ride very well.
