Question: LT-4 over LT-1 premium?
All other things between the cars being equal, what would/does the premium for an LT-4 Vette over an LT-1 Vette seem to be? Hypothetically or otherwise. Thanks....

I assume you mean in value?
LT4 cars seem to get more $$ in the For Sale sections since they are a fairly rare breed.

Re: Question: LT-4 over LT-1 premium? (Mr Mojo)
Yes, that's exactly what I meant. How much more should/are LT-4s priced over LT-1s with all other factors between the two being equal? I guess this only applies to the 1996 model year as that was the only year the LT-4 was available...

From what I've seen here, I think the premium is about $2-4K, all other things being equal.

Two years ago when I bought the premium was $5000 over a good LT1. It seemed to be consistent over time on Autotrader.

Don't forget, unless you're willing to compare a '96 to a '95(or older), you'll have to compare the LT4 6-speed to an LT1 automatic. That may or may not influence the pricing difference....
From what I've heard on this forum, the main advantage of the LT4 is in "braggin' rights".

There is a nice shot of horsepower (around 30) in that LT4 that goes above and beyond my LT1. There is no debate about that. I think LT4's keep up with the earlier LS1's pretty well. Personally, if anything happened to my '93 I would gladly shell out an extra $3-$4000 for a really nice LT4 car. The LT1 can be pretty easily modded to outrun a stock LT4, but those extra ponies installed at Bowling Green will always make them a collector's choice.

Thanks for the feedback. What easy modifications would you recommend to the LT-1 that would make it capable of outrunning a stock LT-4?
Thanks

I think you might have some trouble uncorking enough HP with simple bolt ons. Of course I'm a bit biased. :D

Re: Question: LT-4 over LT-1 premium? (tobijohn)
Very interesting question...
I considered trading my 96 LT1 for a 96 LT4 car a little while back... Now my LT1 is in near perfect condition and it was at a Corvette specialty dealer...
They wanted to give me $15K for my extremely clean 68K mile LT1 and charge me $23K for a nowhere near as clean condition, less optioned, 73K mile, LT4 CE...
At this rate I'm either going to private sell my LT1 car and get a 96 LT4, or 95 LT1/6spd, or hold out for the ZR1... Either way, I gotta have a 6spd in my future now that I'm not daily driving my Vette...
Some of the dealers out there are pretty rediculous in their pricing of beat up LT4 cars, even private sales seem a bit high when you look at condition or mileage...
I figure about $3000 on average should be the price difference, and to me that's high on an 8 model year old car...

Re: Question: LT-4 over LT-1 premium? (tobijohn)
Thanks, all, for the input. While the consensus of the forum responses seems to be that the 96 LT-4/LT-1 premium should be or is anywhere from $2K-$4K, it's intersting to note that the three pricing references I checked (NADA, Kelly and Edmund's) have it as anywhere from $750-$1500. I guess that means that there's a $1250-$2500 difference between the theoretical and reality...
