I got the 85 model at kmart or target, its a ertl, was in a 50th anniv box.
The wheels came from a grand sport model offered on the forum mall.
I used heat shrink tubing to adapt the gs wheels to the 85. No heating, just used as a spacer of correct size. Pretty easy mod

Also, I like the look of the wheels on the '03 Z06 Burago, do you know
if they have the correct offset for the '84 Ertl?
Sorry, couldn't resist.
Nice upgrade, I've been looking for a desktop version of my '89 without
success. Haven't cared for the wheels on the '84s - never thought to
check out 'aftermarket' replacements.

The 50th Anniversary Ertls are '84s - I think these are Ertl #33394.
Now, true sickness would be if I got a red '84 50th #33394 and
replaced the engine with a TPI from a yellow '86 #33394 or the
'86 Redline Oil Racing version #33427. Then all I'd need to do is
add the Z06 wheels and I'd be both happy and certifiable.
Oh, it's a slippery slope...

Your right its the 84 ertl model. I just leave the hood closed and its an 85 for me :D
Slalom4me if your talking about the heat shrink tubing I had it around the house. If the 03 is the same ertl model it might work. The GS I used was a maisto. Its scary, but I just took both diecast models and started prying off the wheels. I'm glad I didn't have to glue them on.

on their 1:1 rides. In their case, the weapon was oxy/acet and the
glue came from an arc.
IROC, you know, you might have an opportunity here. I haven't come
across any diecast Corvette 'tuners' before - I can't be the only person
who has been frustrated by the apparent absence of quality 1:18 C4s
with the right panel and wheel/tire combinations. And with the C5 guys
swapping to C4 wheels, while the C4 guys swap to Y2K and Z06 hoops,
you might wind up with very little scrappage. A little bit of detailing in
the interior with some leather from ladies gloves and a 0000000 brush,
some engine work and the right wheels - who knows what someone
might be willing to pay.
Again, thanks for the post. It has me thinking...

Im glad you mentioned it, an engine swap would be another great mini mod!
At first I had a hard time finding a donor car for the correct wheels. Most GS models are quite $ and wouldnt want to use one of those highly detailed models just for wheels. That would be just wrong.
The heat shrink 'spacer' doesn't allow it to roll freely. But its just for show, something to bring to work and place on the desk.
Ya the models they offer in stores whether its vettes, pt cruisers, etc. they are always the wrong color to match your car. I went to pep boys and got a small spray can of the supposed correct color for 1:1 touch up. It should be enough to do the 1:18.
What year is yours?
Thats an idea, if I ever wanted to see what Z06 rims looked like on my car, do it in the small scale.
Only thing I cant fix once I paint it is the emblems.
Glad I could spread the sickness

I've got just about all of the 50th Anniversary 1:18 die casts. However this is the only one I don't have. It's almost impossible to find in stores. Kmart went out of business here. Target doesn't carry it anymore.. the only place I see them selling it is in Toys R Us. But they just don't have this one in particular. :nonod:

 I need some chrome Y2k's for my 1/24 85 vette.
They say it's 85, but it has an 84 dash, and a third tail light. :skep: I thought I was the first owner, I mean, I built it afterall!

The link above is well worth browsing - lots of great cars and
the prices are not too bad. (With Ertls, shipping always bites
when you know you saw it at the local WM or Target but didn't
act fast enough.)
Oh, and check out the accessories - especially the 2-post lift !

There is going to be a Blue 85 released soon. then you can have the correct engine and no third brake light as on the 86's or crossfire as on the 84's.
There is alot more in the diecast section of the forum for those of you that haven't checked it out lately. :yesnod:
