Default Answers from the C4 Guru (Gordon Killebrew)

A few of you wanted me to ask Gordon some questions when I took his C4 class at Bloomington Gold. Bear with me as it has been years since I took any college class notes and I might have made 1 or 2 mistakes: Q: Why only 1 muffler outlet when there are 2 tips. A: To meet EPA noise guidelines. Note: 87/88 Z51 do have 4 open outlets. Q: Why are you so sure the toothbrush was invented in W. Virginia. A: In any other state it would have been called a teeth brush. :jester Q: Why are the rubber gaskets so expensive? A: They are made from foam that is covered by neopreme and are costly to produce. Gordon says to go with GM parts and order the 95/96 sets. They are the latest designs and are cheaper than replacing crappy aftermarket stuff later. Q: 88 has different front shocks than other C4s. A: For ride height. (my notes are kinda scribbled here but I think he said all years will fit the 88) and all Z51 and 88 on up had gas shocks.. Q: 85 still hesitates after doing all the recommended updates suggested in his school. A: Call him - you have the number. Q: Why no drain plug in diff? A: Just cause Dana made em that way. Use a suction gun and refill with synthetic and two (2) bottles of GM additive - you will be good for 100K. Just a couple of other things. The 1984 Corvette is the best bargain out there. Have it tuned by a shop that knows what they are doing (such as Ron Kane in Springfield, IL http://www.kaneauto.com ) The car has fewer computers and is less complicated and will run great if tuned properly every 50K. Change your auto tranny fluid to synthetic and do a full flush and filter at the time. Happy Corvettin!

Thanks Corvetteronw! You must take great shorthand! I know Gordon is hard to follow when he gets started. I kept hollerin' slow down, slow down!
Again, thanks

Thanks, Ron!
This forum is the best.

Even though I know Gordon sidestepped the answer to my question on the diff drain (GM tells its vendors exactly what features they want in a component...GM designs the component, the vendor just builds it to the customer's drawings....), the other questions/answers were quite interesting.
Thanks for sharing.

Not agreeing or disagreeing, I'm just curious as to how you came to that conclusion....

I would guess that they are usually almost as cheap as the 84s, and they don't have the ceasefire injection. :)

Gordon stated that each year the feds get tougher and lower the allowed dba of the exhaust. That is why the stock C5 sounds like your grandma's Buick! :bb
