Lone Ranger

underside of my interior rearview mirror, the driver side of it has a small slit lens red in color with a tiny bulb behind it. The two courtesy lamps on underside of the mirror work when I flip the switch on passenger side underside of mirror, but I've yet to see this red light illuminate.

When does it come on?

Is it supposed to come on automatically?

How do you manually turn it on?

It doesn't come on with the two under mirror courtesy lights, but the bulb appears intact.

Fuses look okay.

<edit> P.S.: or is it some sort of sensor? (has bulb behind it though...)

It should be a light that illuminates at night t olight up the shifter console area.

It comes on with the headlights and lights up the shifter. Most of the people that have them were suprised to find it...

Take a look at your right forearm the next time you are holding the shifter and your headlights are on, you should see a dim light on your skin. That is the light your are refering to. You should have only one map light on the mirror too.

In the 94-96 cars it is orange to match the dash and instrument lighting. I was told it was an interior ambience light. I have had to replace that bulb only once in the seven years I've had my 96. :cool:

Maybe he wasn't the original owner.......possibility some young thing who was in business for herself and used the car as a portable mattress. :party:

Yep, I jsut checked it tonight...turned headlights on and looked under the mirror and I'll be damned it does light up. Never noticed it before. And you're right, it is amber not red.

I remember when I discovered that little light. I saw the dim light on my arm and I always used to think it was the light from the radio. Then one night I adjusted the rearview mirror and saw the light right on my hand then discovered that tiny light on the bottom of the rearview mirror.

i finally drove my car last night in the dark. very cool in there.
wanted to just sit in awe in the garage but afraid the wif would tease me :lolg:
