LT1 91-96 Buying Guide questions(FAQ?)
I didnt see any FAQs on what to look for, what to watch out for, what to run away from screaming like a little girlie... so... uh... yeah.
My dad and I are looking to get him a new car.
He loves Corvettes... so Im thinking of getting a 1992 Corvette 6 speed (100k miles, $8000)
in fact, here she is:
what should I be checking, etc..
I currently drive a 1988 BMW 325is (which is nice and all but could use some more straight line power)
I wouldnt even mind getting this for myself.
What are the best modifications to go with?
Im a big suspension freak... I tweak and tune the suspension of every car I own to my specific liking (as I enjoy going to driving events/schools)
What kind of suspension am I looking at here? (IE layout.) They have a transverse rear leaf spring?
I know they handle well but how can you make them handle better?
Id love to auto-x it and go to drift days with it.
with the torque of this, I expect to be able to drift almost completely using engine power over having to shift weight (as my 325is requires much more than just planting the right foot to get her sideways)
*blah blah blah* now Im just babbling.
I await suggestions and the like ;)

Re: LT1 91-96 Buying Guide questions(FAQ?) (Chapel)
Why did he replace the distributor??? Was there something wrong with it? Has he only replaced it once? Electrical probably are something you don't want to get into. You'll probably want to replace the stock stereo with an aftermarket one later on anyways.
Check the body for alignment as well as the rear wheel to make certain they set correctly under the fenders.
Good luck

Also, Corvette Fever has a C4 buyers type guide in this month's issue.
She looks GREAT! for a 100k car, she looks straight as an arrow!
And miles is not a bad thing... it means she has been driven and exersized.
The bose amps are a known problem....

Looks like a very nice car for the money; I wouldn't think about it too long. Having the distributor replaced is a good thing. The problems you mentioned shouldn't be that big a deal.

Since you're into suspension, check to see which suspension that corvette has. I believe the "stiffest" suspension in 92 was the Z07. (someone correct me if I'm wrong). "Z07" should appear on the RPO list.

I have a '92 and the first to go was the CAG 1-4 so I can shift anytime I like. Next was the exaust, much stronger sound etc. After that the cookie cutter wheels had to go.....
I stopped modding as I was going to sell it ( only 53K miles ) but with prices so low, its too much car to give away....

Good luck...

Body looks very good
By the way, 1991 Corvettes don't have the LT1, although from the rear they look like the 92-96 version (with the exception of the tail pipes). For $8G's, that car looks damn good!
