Resale Values Grand Sport vs Z06?

I'd say invest in a Grand Sport...and preferably a convertible! With only 1,000 ever made (and 190 of them convertibles), they'll be worth much more than any other Corvette in the future.

Hmmmm....tough decision since both are awesome cars. If it were my money, I'd get the Grand Sport. I've always been partial to the C4's anyway.

Go find a stock broker......
GS is holding it's value better. Just saw a 01 Z06 sell for 29K..... only had 20,000 miles on it.

Grandsport hands down..
I love my Z06 but if I had to do down to 1 vette from the 93 and Z06 I would probably get rid of both of them and get a grandsport..
1 of 1000 is very attractive..
and if you can find a red gut vert you have one very rare car

Re: Resale Values Grand Sport vs Z06? (aggie88)
i would buy a Z06, but not based on investment purposes. Cars do not usually equal return value in terms of money (only enjoyment). the zo6 makes up about 21% of the production of vettes (being produced 4 years). the GS was probably more like 4-5% and only one year. they are rarer cars and will probably hold their value better in the long run. i don't appraise cars either so what do i really know?

To all who suggest the stock market - best investment? Probably. But I had a lot of Enron options too! But a stock certificate doesn't provide the joys of Corvette ownership. Let me clarify - I was really asking about RESALE value, I would never "INVEST" in any car. Unless it was a true classic. To those who say the 96 GS - this car may have some collector value 5 to 7 years down the road. With the limited production #s, it probably will hold value better (not increased value) than the Z06.

GS Diva - so you have a Blue and White bias too! This is my other depreciating asset in my garage. 1970 GTO purchased in 1982 as a roller for $800. http://home.att.net/~cycy/gto.jpg

Stock market? LOL!
Real estate is an investment, the stock market is gambling. And you're giving your money to someone else to gamble with.
As far as retaining some of your money I'd have to say the GS.
2nd choice would be the ZR-1.
3rd Z06.
A friend just bought an 02 Z06 and the guy who sold it to him lost $17,000. on the sale.

Not sure how it will look in the future, but I can honestly say that I haven't lost a dime in resale value since I bought the car a little over 2 years ago.

GS
Your better off laddering bonds of all types, particularly treasuries. Owning real estate is great because you own something that should hold its value but when your tenant doesnt pay your S.O.L. not to mention how home prices are stretched to the point where if yields rise marginally home prices will plunge.
Dont get me started on home prices. When my parents bought their home in 1970 the avg price was 2x your salary. Today you can expect to pay 7x your salary.
Definitely the GS, maybe even a challenge car I think they only made 60 or 70 of them

I guess it depends on what you expect the dividend to pay out.
I've never got caught up in buying a car for investment purposes only.
It's not too hard to figure which is the more exclusive car, but at the
same time I couldn't fathom buying a GS with any thoughts of selling it.
That equation wouldn't factor. Now who knows what life can bring later
on down the line.
I guess though if GS ownership is not going to be long-term vs a Z06, that
getting the GS would be the better of the two.

I'm sorta partial to the Grand Sport myself. The Z-6 is a nice car but a Grand Sport is a definite head turner.

Fast factory cars always seem to hold their value. Especially landmark speed cars like fulie's, big blocks, etc. But if the cars just keep getting faster its hard to figure. Its like McGuire's home run ball.
