C4's and Snow
I am looking to buy a C4 for use as a daily driver. Living in the northeast I have to ask how well do they handle in the snow?

Generally speaking they do not handle well in the snow. With a good set of all season tires you may do ok on lighlty covered roads. The later models 92 and up have traction control which should help some. However, driving a corvette on anything more than a few inches will probably get you in trouble.

Handles great in South Florida snow. :lolg:
Actually, I was looking a while back at moving up North. I was surprised to see that they had snow tires in the right size for the Vette's. But, I am very glad that I never moved. I have never driven in snow (other than Florida snow), so I would be the one doing 5 mph in the right lane in a light flurry!

Re: (scorp508)
As long as accumulated snow on the road is less than 3" you should be "ok". I drove mine through 2 winters and only spun out twice and got stuck once. :D
Mine was also a daily driver through 2 winters. The posi rear end helps keep you from getting stuck. Like Scorp said, anything much over 3" and you'll turn into a snowplow.

As a resident of Canada I say it is not recomended. I got caught a couple of times when I took the car to work and I only live 5 miles from there and it was very difficult getting back home. My experiance is not to plan on it.

Dude, stay off the roads in Jersey when there is snow on the ground!
It can be done, but with ASR kicking in, it's a bitch to go any faster than 14 mph and you will be sideways when doing it. Take ASR off and you will straighten right out, but sit there and spin. Of course our fat tires don't help the situation at all. For snow, tall and skinny is the ticket, definitely not vette tires.
If you are out and it starts snowing, you will be able to get home, but if you wake up at 4:00am and there is already 4 inches of virgin snow, it's gonna take some doing(don't ask me how I know).

Get the skinnest, tallest snow tires (Not all seasons) you can find. New rims will be required. Try Dunlop winter sports, I sell lots of them to the Porsche crowd. Be careful, slow down, put some ballast (sand bags) in the back.
We all drove rear drive cars for 80 some years before front drive became popular.

Re: C4's and Snow (Gearheadotaku)
I live just north of Boston, and I have neither a garage nor a second car, so I'm compelled to drive the Vette all winter. I've gone two winters so far, and I've never been stuck (yet). I'm using Kumho Ecsta 712's, and they seemed OK last season. The secret to winter driving in a Vette is PATIENCE. Accelerate very gently, drive slowly, and anticipate turns and stops. If there's more than 5-6 inches on the streets I'll wait for snowplows.
I remember last winter having to get out a snowshovel to dig the first foot of snow off the Vette before removing the last 6" with a brush, then getting in and driving to work. You do what you have to do.

C4's and snow dont mix. Get yourself a cheap winter beater. Not worth it to put the C4 thru the salt and snow, or to worry about that person on the cell phone slaming into you from behind.

Dude, man, I beg of you - please don't drive it in the snow! Show more respect for the vehicle than most C5 owners (at least here in MI!). :seeya

When it comes down wet you don't have a prayer!!! I got caught in the snow one time in the spring. It was that wet stuff that melted almost imediatly when it hits the ground and forms a small layer of slush. Other cars seemed to be doing fine, but the light Vette with the big tires was bad. I was idling down the flat street without touching the gas and the traction control was kicking on!!!

Re: C4's and Snow (6t9l4t6)
thats why i have an old pos toyota rice camry to drive - bad weather, general beater, i give it no respect kind of car so that my real car stays safe
if another beater is out of the question, yes the vette will be ok as long as it isnt more than a couple inches of snow.....just be reasonably careful and drive
slow, you should be ok :seeya
