STALL SPEED ON STOCK TORQUE CONVERTERS?
Hey, what is the average stall on a cars TC? What is the stall on a stock 1985 Converter?
What does Stall mean? Everyone tells me to get a higher stall converter. I think my car bites hard off the line stock...but thats just me...

us 84-86 owners are the luckier ones when it comes to stock stall speed. it's a little less than 2100 RPM i believe. from 87 up they went to the 1397 rpm stall

85, 86-roughly 2000rpm
which is pretty much all you need, til you start significant mods

The 85 should have a 2000 rpm stall convertor, unless some switched it out during a Tranny rebuild.

At the stall speed, the converter locks and sends all power thru the driveline.
Like when a clutch is fully engaged.
You dont need more than you currently have unless youve messed with that intake.

I have no idea why they lowered the stall, other than perhaps they ran out of the original batch they started with.
I dont see how it puts that much more stress on the rear for them to stop using them. Perhaps they felt the heat issue was enough to lower the stall.
Lots of small things were always updated in the 700r4, just like the L98.
Even in my older articles I dont see much on it though.
