1995 Corvette Owner's question
Could you please tell me if your 1995 car came with a Wheel Nut Socket? I see it in the owner's manual and on the card attached to the jack. I have the wheel lock key, but don't have the Wheel Nut Socket. It's a 19 mm socket I believe. If so does anyone have the number on it, I'll try to find one or if you have seen one let me know.
Thanks in advance!

Re: 1995 Corvette Owner's question (DarkRed95)
I'm only guessing but I think some dealers cut off the locking lug nuts and replace them with standard ones when they get the cars in trade or at auction because either they don't know to look in the storage bin for the OEM key or it's just plain missing. That was the case with my 96 when I bought it (no owner's manual, either). I got a print out from the dealer of all the repairs that had been done prior to the car being listed and an entry for removal of those locking lug nuts was on it...

Why would GM include such a socket? A 19mm hex "socket" is built into the wrench used for changing tires.
Not saying it doesn't exist, just don't understand the reasoning.

Re: 1995 Corvette Owner's question (JasonL)
Sorry, I initially misunderstood the original question. I went out and checked and I too have no additional Wheel Nut Socket and it IS referenced on the plastic card attached to the jack itself. But the one built in to the jack handle definitely fits on the lug nut and can be used to R&R the lug nuts. So yeah, I'm confused too. Why would GM include a separate wheel nut socket?

In addition to the special locking lug nut, that plastic card attached to the jack also mentions and has an illustration of a "Wheel Nut Socket"...

Re: 1995 Corvette Owner's question (bigbozman)
I just got the 1995 video from ebay, it has it in there. I recomend getting this video if you can. I learned a few things on there. Does anyone have a number on the wheel nut socket or knows where to get it? I'll try the bone yards.
On the video I got a new one never used with the cards in there. By the way it's a dealer version and has ZR1 info. He has them on ebay here:

I didn't have one, but now I have one for each car. Having a friend who owns a junkyard is a good thing.

Are these the same for each car?? My '95 had locks, and when I got my new wheels, I got new locks, so I believe I have the old locks/keys, and your welcome to them if you need them. Let me know.

Re: 1995 Corvette Owner's question (DarkRed95)
My 93' came with two one standard wheel nut socket and one for the keyed nut. Although a 13/16" socket works well too. The wheel nut socket doesn't have an end that lets you insert it into the torque wrench or a socket wrench. It's the male side. So you still need to use a 13/16" or I guess a 19mm socket or the lug nut wrench.
The outside diameter is such that it allows the nut socket to not contact the wheel recess hole for each bolt. I ask the people removing my tires to use both. Just to ensure the wheel doesn't get damaged.
I have them both in front of me, and they do not have a p/n stamped on them.

Well, I guess I better get one too then.... :(
Did you and yours have a good holiday? If you noticed my post on throttle bodies you'd know that I've been busy catching up on a lot of work needed to be done on the Vette and I finally solved the bad idle-rough engine at low rpm problems. Yeah, the list is finally getting shorter!
The weather has been excellent, heck I've had the top out for three straight days now. And the next four are suppose to go up near 80!
Take care guy...

Re: 1995 Corvette Owner's question (93JetJocky)
Yeah, and now that I realize I don't have that socket, the odds I'll get a flat before I have a chance to pick one up have just increased dramatically!
Good to hear you were able to check one thing off your Vette list. Holidays were fine and the weather down here has been just as nice. One of these days I'll have to actually pop my roof panel too (of course, that ratchet tool was missing as well). Happy New Year to you! :seeya

There were two sockets in my car when I bought it. One for the theft deterant lugs and the other for the plain lugs. But I also got a 96 Owner's Manual with my 95 so go figure...

Happy New Years to you and yours too.
Isn't that one of Murphy's Laws?
Sounds like you'll need to pick up a few accessories, sockets and wrench.
Ha! One item checked no way I checked off several!!! While I had the coolant system open, I put in a new t-stat, and replaced the feed hose to the TB. Installed a new Delco alternator, got rid of the noisy bearing one. And of course anytime one is in there you have to clean. Actually it was good to have some extra time to catch up on some of these items.
You haven't had the top out of the grocery getter yet? Hey I saw where you mentioned not having the owner manual, I found a place in CA that has the original color manuals if your interested. Their web site is http://www.coastcorvette.com
I got my 93 manual there, lots of folks had repoduction manuals which are essentially a photo copy with comb binding. Have a good one! :seeya

Re: 1995 Corvette Owner's question (93JetJocky)
Well, a while after I bought the car I noticed that there was no wrench or owner's manual however the dealer told me to go ahead and order them and they'd re-imburse me (which they did). I suppose I could try to get them to cover the socket as well but it's been almost six months and I doubt it would be worth the effort. I guess I'll head over to the local Chevy dealer and see if I can pick one up there. I wonder if the Camaro/Firebirds use that same socket for their alloy rims? If so, my chances of finding one easily and cheaply would be that much better....
