If I were to purchase a ZR1, what year is the best year to get?
I've been thinking about buying a ZR1 and after seeing WeGone's stable, I have decided on a Yellow ZR1. Does that eliminate certain years? (do htey even make a yellow ZR1?)
Which year is the best to get. Gonna check out Dupont Registry and see what's available.
Thanks,
Mark

Yes they did make yellow ZR-1's. Every year that yellow was available on a L98/LT1 car, the ZR-1 was available in that color.
There is no "bad year" ZR-1. I have a 90 and love it. If you don't like the front end of the 90, I would look at a 94 or 95. They have the 405 hp motor and only 448 were made per year. The yellow will push the price up some though.

I like the 93' better seats than the 94', 40th year best of both worlds but thats just me (as a matter of fact if i had the $$ for a Zr1 it really would not matter :D )

There is no "bad year" ZR-1.
The only thing that would make you lean towards one year over the rest would have to be body and/or interior preferences.
As in most things Corvette, I'd think "the newer, the better".
(I want a Torch Red '95 LT5 SO bad...)

Thanks guys, was '95 the last year for the ZR1? If they made a '96, I think I would go that way....

Hey Mark, If you go looking for a ZR-1, bring me with you. I love looking them over. If they only had a vert. It's about time you got rid of that newbie username. This one fits you fine.

nope 95 was the last year. i'd try to find one of those if i were you. being the last year and all, plus the 405 hp would be nice :D then again a 90-94 wouldn't be so bad

A 95 with Dunn Heads.
To bad those heads are in the heaviest ZR-1 which negates anything but "collectability"

93. First year for the 405hp motor(375hp earlier models) and the earlier interior. 94-95 had interior change. 90 I have heard is the lightest and even with the earlier 375hp motor, is the quickest.

Or at least the next weekend I know I will have it and my truck out there.
Hell you get me a good deal on that car we talked about and Ill let you take it for a spin!

The 1990, being the lightest is usually the best performer.
1991 gets you the updated front end
1992 you get ASR
1993 you get 405hp, and EGR (no EGR on previous LT5's), and slightly different rims
1994 you get new seats, new dash
1995 gets you the last of the breed, and 5 spoke rims
The 1993-95 are the most collectable. If you are going to going to drive the car a few times a year, you may want to look for one of these
The 1990-92 are the drivers. I drive my 91 daily, tho I usually wont drive it if it rains.
The can be quite a bit of difference between ZR-1's so its best to shop around. By this I mean some LT5's run like a raped ape, and some are slooooow (at least by ¼ mile times). Since they were all hand built I think most agree that this is due to variations in build and cam timing. Lots of into can be found on zr1.net.

Good luck in your hunt, If your looking for a driver I would agree 90-91 are at the best price range for this. I bought my 91 with 10K miles about two years ago and now have 34K on it. The 90 I just picked up about 3 months ago with 25K miles on it and I just turned 32K this week, but I drive it every day. I found that once you own a ZR-1 you need a driver and a keeper just cannot get enough of WLT5 @ 7200rpm.

Re: If I were to purchase a ZR1, what year is the best year to get? (We Gone)
Just out of curiousity, I just built my '95 LT1 with 58mm throttle body, 30lb injectors, ported and polished heads, .586 lift cam, 1.6 roller rockers, shorty headers and K&N open filter. I also installed a 2800 converter with 3:54 gears. I haven't dynoed it since I had the computer done... I'm guessing it' probably putting out about low to mid 400's... I really have no idea. (if anyone does, feel free to let me know...)
Question is, will a ZR1 run any better? I mean, if it's only putting out 405HP and let's say that my '95 is mid 400's, would it be any faster? I'm just curious, I'm not buying it to have something fast (I already have a 700HP bigblock in an S10), I'm looking for something more as a collectible piece.
Thanks for your time...
Mark

I would think in the ¼ mile it would be but over 100 to 180 you will find a ZR-1 hard to stay with considering it has a 7200rpm red line and can run close to 120 in third gear.
And still get 19 to 21 mpg around town and 28 to 30 on the big road, plus just pop the hood
:D

Re: If I were to purchase a ZR1, what year is the best year to get? (MyRedC4)
I would imagine a lighter C4 with more power is going to out run a ZR-1. The LT4 is a good match for the ZR-1 in 0-100mph runs. The very wide torque curve and 7100 limit may save the ZR-1 in most races where its outdone on HP tho. These things are top speed cruisers and that is what they do very well. Cars really should not pull over 100mph like the ZR-1 does, it is unreal.
I mean what other car do you know of where they put "spirited driving is a must to keep the motor running clean" and "be careful not to scare innocent pedestrians with the sounds of the LT5 in full song" in the driver manual?

I think if I were ever to get another C4 it would be ZR1. I think a 93 would be a good choice because it has the 405 hp and the earlier seats which are just better, imo. Plus I would imagine they are cheaper than a 94-95.
