Flowmaster vs. Dynomax Ulta Flow
Hey guy's
Need some opinions from you all. Here's the deal, a buddy of mine is the manager of a Speedy Muffler shop here in Ontario and a past C4 owner and i do depend on him for a fair bit of advise about my '88 auto that is relativly stock with the exception of the standard "cheep/free" mods.
He would realy like to see me put on a set of polished Ultra Flows and a matching rear Y pipe. My car still has the original mufflers so anything would be an improvement
He's explained the difference between the Dynomax interior design and that of a Flowmaster Force II system and it makes sence that the Ultra's will flow better.
My real delema is the cost differnce and the fact that i have been told by lots of people here at cars show and vette events that Flowmaster is where its at. I could do the work my self so the Flowmaster kit will cost me $680.00 Can$ but the Dynomax set up will run me $1000.00 Can$ installed.
I dont see many of you using the Dynomax stuff and that has waied on my decision. What do you guys think. Are the Ultras worth the extra $$. How do they sound. Will the strait thru design of the Ultras out perform the chambered design of the Flowmasters.
I have budgeted since the fall for the Ultra's but could i save some cash for next winters brakes and suspention work.

It all depends what you really want... performance or sound.
The Ultra Flows do flow better than the Flowmaster mufflers simply due to their low restriction flow-through design. The faster you can remove exhaust gases, the better. You should at least notice a throttle response difference with the Ultra Flows.
Dynomax Ultra Flow: 1133 CFM
Flowmaster Series: 435 CFM
But the Flowmaster Force II system is only $565 from Flowmaster direct. The Flowmaster sound is great, one of the best, but the Ultra Flows don't sound bad at all. But they are about double the cost.
If you are on a budget, want flow-through design with no restriction and don't mind a throaty idle sound but EXTREMELY aggressive under-load sound, spend the $175 and get muffler eliminators. Cheap, cleans up the rear end, and also provide a weight reduction. I've also noticed the underneath of the car is cooler (including the cabin on long traffic idles) since it seems to disipate heat faster when there isn't a muffler holding exhaust gases.
Then you can use the $400 you saved for the brakes and suspension next winter or you can pitch some money for some low restriction cats!
Take Care :flag

:iagree: And if that's not loud enough for you, go with a high flow cat and long-tube headers.

Are the prices so high b/c you're from Canada?
Mid-America has the Ultra Flow's for $360 http://www.madvet.com/shop?frame=3.119.983 and you can get the reay Y w/ crossover from the Forum mall on sale now for $89. http://store.yahoo.com/corvetteforum/zip-ex-903-gp.html
I hope the links work.
Summit has the mufflers for $320, part #s WLK-17274 and WLK-17275.

Although the corvetteforum server has aparently chopped and mangled my video, you can still hear what ultra flows sound like here on my car
http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c4/c4fetish//flyby01.wmv
IMO alot better sounding than flowmasters.

Re: Flowmaster vs. Dynomax Ulta Flow (bigbozman)
I put on the Dynomax Ultra Flows 3 years ago and don't regret it. It has a tremendous throaty rumble. I've had it next to anyone with flowmasters so I can't compare it. I'm always driving so have no idea what it sounds like on when pulling out but my buddy (a camaro guy) says it has one heck of a bark when I take off. They look absolutely gorgeous too!! I drive it every day April to Oct 14K per summer and they still look like glass. I rub them down regularly to maintain the shine but they look and sound great! I only paid $325 american for them. I look for a pic if you'd like, better yet, I'll borrow a digital camera next week and snap a few if you'd like to see 3 year old Dynaflows!
