Default battery drain...

I am having a battery drain problem with my 92. If I dont drive the car for a few days, the battery is dead. I was wondering if anyone knew where the battery's negative ground cable is located at. I wanted to check it to see if it was secured properly. Also, does anyone have any ideas on how to find what might be causing the drain?
Thanks,
Ron

Thanks for that suggestion, but I actually unplugged those just to make sure. The battery still drained. Just to make sure, it really isnt normal for it to drain after not driving it for 3 days is it? I have searched the forum on this topic and it seems that it is common for the battery to drain but I was thinking it was after a week or so. The trusty battery charger keeps me in business though. I might have to invest in a trickle charger or the battery maintainer that I read about here.

Your battery should last for a couple of weeks with the car parked in the garage.

One thing to check is the vanity mirrors. My daughter left the light on in the mirror on the passenger side, thinking it would shut off when she closed it as in newer cars. Mine is a 96. Not sure if yours are the same.

How old is the battery? It may need replacement. To check the alternator, measure accross the positive and negative battery terminals. You should read from 13.5 to 14.5 volts. If you measure within that range, the alternator is working properly. If lower, your problem is probably there.

If the alternator checks out and the battery still wont hold a charge, it probably needs to be replaced. I recently replaced mine and did it the hard way. Here is a good procedure that a fellow forum member, GS919 recommended. http://www.grandsportregistry.com/techtips/battery_replacement.htm

Good luck,
Larry

Do you leave the keys in the ignition? That'll do it too
