I remember seeing it and thinking "wow what a car!" it was definitaly top-of-the-line then! But sorry, not sure what year it was. If I had to guess...I would say 84 because the movie, I believe, was made in late 83-early 84.

It's definetly an 84. What made me mad was Dean Martin and Sammy Davis jr were obviously intimidated by Frank Sinatra in a Dodge shelby daytona :rolleyes: Love the opening chase scene with the Lamborghini Countach, the only car I would forsake my Vette for. :smash:

Yes, it was 84. I forgot how it goes exactly, but there's one scene, at the end pretty much, where Sinatra is racing them in his Conquest, and in one of the frames, either the vette or the Conquest is actually a different car, then in the next frame, it jumps back to the vette and Conquest! You have to look close though, and I'm sure you can only find it on the DVD. Kinda strange...
EDIT: Not a Conquest, a Shelby Daytona. Couldn't think of the car.

The conquest was driven by Jackie Chan and Richard Kiel (Jaws from the Bond movies)

Guys this wasn't Part 2 it was the first one! I have it on DVD. :D I'd have to go back and watch it again to see if I could tell the year of the Vette though.

In the original Cannonball Run, which is by far the best of the two:
--Sammy and Dean disguise themselves as a couple of priests and drive a red Ferrari 308.
--Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise, Farrah Fawcett and Jack Elam (cross-eyed doctor) drive a hotrod ambulance.
--Adrienne Barbeau and Tara Buckman are the babes driving a black Lamborghini Countach
--Mel Tillis and Terry Bradshaw drive a '76 or '77 primer color Monte Carlo.
--Jackie Chan and Michael Hui drive a computer enhanced black 2dr Suburu.
--Jamie Farr is a sheik that drives a hotrod Rolls Royce.
No corvette in this movie, which came out in 1981 (Cannonball II came out in 1984).
Oh, there is a Mustang in the movie. It's only in there once and appears at the start the race. If you listen to the engine when it takes off, it appears they used one of Ford's awesome 4 banger stangs. :lolg:

What was the Cannanball copy movie with John Candy driving a BMW? That one had an opening chase scene with a Lamborghini as well, that skips across a lake. :thumbs:

I believe this was SpeedZone - which is somewhat annoying, because they switch between a real Countach, and a kit-car Countach in that chase scene. I guess rightfully so, who'd risk a real one in some of those stunts, although they did drive the real one on the dirt road? I think this one was sort of supposed to be Cannonball Run III, but if you remember at the end of II, they said they were racing back "tomorrow," but tomorrow never came...

I recently read the book "Cannonball!" by Brock Yates, the creator of the Cannonball series races. Much of the movie was based on actual occurences throughout the 5 official Cannonball races. Brock himself drove the ambulance (with his wife as the senator's wife/patient) in the final Cannonball race. Burt and Dom are actually wearing the real uniforms worn by Brock and crew. Great book -- definately a good read if you are interested in these races. Did you know Dan Gurney and Yates won the first official Cannonball? In a Ferrari Daytona! :steering: :thumbs:
