1996 Tire Pressure Monitor System
The "Service LTPWS" displays on the Instrument Panel Cluster after the installation of a new Tire Pressure Sensor was installed on the left rear wheel. How do I program the Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensor?

I had one replaced on my 96 after it was broken when I put new tires on it. After the new sensor was installed the light went out. I believe it resets itself.

It sounds like you got a bad replacement of the wrong sensor... The light should go out by itself...
Thanks...I think your right. The mechanic was having difficulty coming up with an answer as to how to resolve the problem.

Q: My "SERVICE LTPWS" light keeps coming on but my tire pressures are OK. What's up?
A: If the tires appear OK and you don't seem to be experiencing any abnormal ride characteristics (ie vibrations), I'd check the LTPWS for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
You can check for DTCs by grounding pin 5 of the Diagnostic Link Connector (DLC) to pin 6 of the DLC. The DLC is numbered as follows:

The DLC is located under the carpeted knee bolster on the driver's side of the interior. The connector is black and located to the right, (i.e. closer to the console area versus the drivers door panel)
Using a paperclip or other suitable high-tech tool, connect pins 5 and 6. Insert the key into the ignition and turn the key to "RUN" (Don't start the engine). The Service LTPWS light will begin flashing. "blink..blink.......blink..blink" would be DTC 22. Each DTC will be repeated three times.
The codes are as follows:
I've referenced the sensor colors since on occasion they've been know to be in the wrong location.
23 - (orange sensor) Righ Rear Tire Pressure Low
33 - (yellow sensor) Left Rear Tire Pressure Low
43 - (green sensor) Left Front Tire Pressure Low
53 - (blue sensor) Right Front Tire Pressure Low
24 - (orange sensor) Righ Rear sensor fault
34 - (yellow sensor) Left Rear sensor fault
44 - (green sensor) Left Front sensor fault
54 - (blue sensor) Right Front sensor fault
99 - Receive / Control Module Fault
To clear the codes, ground and un-ground pin 5 to pin 6 three times in a 10 second period.
There is a period of time that must elapse before the diagnostic runs and determines if a DTC should be set and the "SERVICE LTPWS" lamp illuminated. This is why the light may not illuminate until you driven a few miles.
