If you kept the car on an uneven surface when you changed the oil, you can actually hinder the removal of all the oil. Keep the car level and it is better if the car has been driven prior to the oil change. It is better if it is done this way and this will also hasten the removal of the oil.

I find if I put the front tires on ramps and angle pan to the plug, it takes almost 6 qts to fill. So I would say that more oil comes out like that.
If its level it only takes barely 5

Nato: hate to be different, but I always raise the front end. This allows access to the drain bolt and let it drain for a couple of hours. If you look under the oil pan, you will see the drain area is slopped downward toward the rear. I think this gets more of the oil out of the engine, especially if you drain a hot engine for a couple of hours. Something else you may try is to fill the oil filter with new oil befor you install the new filter to the engine. SAM

If I have a small amount of oil remaining after a previous oil change, I'll take that and pour it into the motor after the old oil has finished draining. That seems to help with removing any old oil at the bottom of the pan.
Once all of that has finished draining, I'll fill the oil filter before installing it. That helps the oil pump build pressure quickly.

All those poor comedians that are out of work and these guys are trying to be funny.
Filling the filter with fresh oil is a must. Don't want a dry start up.

As entertaining as this thread is, I never thought about filling the filter prior to installing.
So you'd put a quart or less in the filter, put 4 or so in the engine? Nice!
Oh, to get all the oil out, I find that removing the pan is the only way to be sure all the old is out!
Keeps the garage floor nice and shiny!
