Default I'm rattle free!!! (Ruby fix-up Saturday)

Today was fix the Rubies day. First up, Dad's Ruby vert, second was mine.

Dad's problem was the seat bolsters didnt work.
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=997268
Turns out to be bad switches, I then went for broke and tried to fix the switches and did!!
Problem 1 now fixed

Problem 2: My Ruby. Door rattle, right side.

We (dad and I) took apart the door. FYI, the last screw is hidden behind the door lock slide lever thing. Just pry off the lever and its exposed. We learned about this on the second door. Anyhow, this annoying rattle that has always been there turns out to be a bracket that secures the arm rest to the door itself. Someone put the screw in the door, but didnt put the bracket on first Removed screw, with the door panel on, attached the bracket, and then re attached the panel (We had just barely enough room to work with the panel still on)

Problem 2 now fixed, door doesnt rattle

Problem 3: My Ruby. Door rattle when window is down, slight rattle when up.

We took that panel off all the way (helps to fully read those big shop manuals ) Kept tapping on the door, rattle rattle rattle. Couldnt tell where it was coming from. It sounded like metal on glass, but we could find nothing hitting anywhere. Took probably 20 to 30 minutes for me to get lucky and spot a washer that looked loose. I put the window up a hair, revealing two nuts with two washers at the base of the window. The one nut was loose, and taping the washer made the rattle rattle rattle!!! Tightened nut, NO MORE RATTLE!!! Checked all other nuts, all were tight, put door panel back on, done!

Problem 3 now fixed, NO interior rattles

Its amazing how silent the car is now when driving down the road or going over bumps. It used to sound like the windows were going to shatter when closing the doors, but not anymore!!!

It sure does feel great to have a successful day when working on Vettes

Thanks for the compliment on the car!

Also, I solved that wife problem when I moved to Florida. I simply left her in Alabama

its original color, but I just had it repainted (thanks to Hurricane Charley) Before I had it repainted, it would still look just like that mainly because I used Zaino or NXT (NXT just didnt last as long) but I still used the Zaino spray detailer.

Well, it's noce to know that someone's working on their ruby. I'd love to go out and tinker, but it's about 15* and there's at least 10" of snow on the ground.

And with all the remarks on the condition of your car. that thing looks great!!!! Now I know what mine is supposed to look like!

There is almost nothing more satisfying than fixing a rattle. My 10 year old son laughs at me when I hit my dash or other part of the car trying to locate a rattle. I must make a funny face when I do this, as he does his best to imitate me. Rattles can possess you, no doubt. Enjoy the rattle free car (for now).

Yup, I elminated rear hatch rattles too. Where the trim pieces meet, put some double sided weatherstrip tape stuff there. Its the foam tape. Worked for me!

Additional info... where any plastic piece touches another piece, putsome foam there. Rattles go bye bye

Glad someone brought up the rattle issue stuff. Maybe someone here can help me out here....I have a rattle ('92) that's driving me completely nuts! It on the right side of the car and sounds like it's coming from the glove box area. almost like it right behind it. Other than that I'm rattle free...Oh except those darn sunvisor mirror covers. But, those aren't anything that can't be fixed. But again that rattle by the glove box....HELP!!!!

my semi-intoxicated thought is that there may be some screws that attach the box to the car. screws are missing. Remove dash, examine screws. before removing dash, see if there are screws in glove box. Before removing dash, have someon drive you arround, and listen for the sound. It may be a bitch to pinpoint, but there is always that chance...

just to give you an idea about how sound travels in vettes, the drivers door fix I had, sounded like it came from the door lock, no matter what position the window was in. Sound carries worse than an STD in Thailand in these cars.
