Default WTB Throttle Body

My 1990's throttle body is worn out and it's sticking, so I'm looking for a new one. New throttle bodies are pretty pricey at $300 or so, so I'm hoping someone has one slightly used that they'd be willing to sell.

From what I can tell, a '92 throttle body won't work on a '90, but thanks anyway. If you know otherwise please let me know.

Oh, I guess I failed to punctuate that. I meant "my '90's". I fixed it.

I'm actually having trouble figuring that out. I'm getting conflicting information from different sources.

Throttle bodies are as follows:

85-88
89-91
92-96

There are several companies who will rebuild the throttle body which includes boring it out to 52mm and installing a new shaft (which is the part binding) and butterflies. You can find them here in the tech section or on ebay.

this is the best way to go.. They use bushings on the shaft to seal out the air and stop it from binding...I believe the price on ebay was around $150.00 for the rebuilt unit if you traded in your old unit as a core.......WW

You can use a 89-92 tpi tb on any tpi plenum but must have the correct wrap around throttle cable. The iac passage is open between the bores unlike the 85-88 tb that runs through the plenum passage.

Thanks, I wasn't able to figure that out so that's really helpful.
Huh, I didn't know about rebuilding. I'll look into that.

$150 is pretty reasonable. May not look as nice as a brand new throttle body, but I'll take a savings of $150 any day.

Aha, I was wondering what the difference was between them.

I just bought (two days ago) a Professional Products Throttle body 52mm from Amazon brand new delivered for $200.

I could have gotten a new BBK from Auto Anything with a first time buyer code for $258 delivered. BBK is a better unit with sealed bearings, but I figured the Pro. Products should last 25 years like the original one.

Problem is the Throttle shafts wear out, and they develop a vacuum leak. Mine ran lousy (idle hunting). Much better now.

You will have to re-use your IAC, TPS, and lower coolant passage/IAC body. The Pro. Products came with Bolts, Gaskets and a top plate. I re-used my old plate, but the bolt holes needed a bit of re-alignment. That made me worry about the quality, but everything else seems really well made.

You will regret getting a used stock used one (vacuum leaks). Either get a rebuild, or buy a new/lightly used one.

Good luck to you.

Thanks man.
I looked up the Professional Products throttle body and unfortunately it looks like it's for the LT1, not the L98.
I'll probably go for a rebuild to save the money over getting a new one. There's a place on Ebay that rebuilds them for $180. That being said, I'm still weighing my options.

Yeah, the reason I'm replacing mine is that the shaft is worn so the butterfly valve sticks, and I have to flick the gas pedal every time I am at a light so the idle will go down.

I'd only be interested in a used throttle body if it was from a low miles car. Any idea how many miles are on that TB?

If it's still for sale, I'm going to get a Holley throttle body one of the forum members listed.

Thanks guys!

I just looked at my order, and the same new one on Amazon (Professional Products 69705) was $344. Can't say why that is...Hmmmm

Mine is a 1990 L98 also. The kit also came with both linkages for early and late L98. Earlier models have a clip on cable and the later have the lead plug on the end.

Summit has the same throttle body (69705) for $235. We all want to save money where we can.

I read that some Holley throttle body installations might have some issues with fitment, so before pulling the trigger, do your due diligence.
