Default 1989 Scan code 13

I am getting a code 13 on my 1989 Corvette. The service engine light comes on sometimes for 15_20 seconds other times for 3~4 minutes then always turns off. So I see this is an O2 sensor error. If the O2 sensor is bad...shouldn't the check engine light stay on? Was thinking I might have some sort of intermittent short or something. I've not been able to give it anytime as I've been driving back and forth for the last ten days to stay with my mother in the hospital.

The O2 sensor was replaced this past summer.

Thanks, Went

Default

The ECM only turns on the SES light if there is a current error. The O2 sensor needs to warm up before it puts out useful data, so the ECM will wait for it. While it's waiting the SES light will be out.

My notes from the FSM say this error can be caused by an open connection to the O2 sensor or the wire is shorted to ground.
